Chayote Dal curry is healthy side dish, which really goes well with hot steamed rice.

The ingredients you will need, (all ingredients available at Indian grocery store)

For pressure cook

1 medium size Chow chow/Chayote
1/2 cup Moong dal/paasi paruppu

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

Salt as required

2 cups of water

For Grinding

1/2 cup grated Coconut

1/2 tsp Jeera/cumin seeds

3 to 4 no of Red dry chilli

For seasoning

1 tsp Mustard seed / kadugu

1 tsp urad daal / ulundhu

1 tbsp of oil few curry leaves

Step 1: Method

Wash chayote and cube them.

Take dal in pressure cooker and wash well in fresh running water.

Add cubed chayote, salt, turmeric and water in it.

Cover the cooker with its lid and cook for 3 whistle.

Turn off the heat and let the steam settle down.

Take all the ingredients mentioned under for grinding column. Add little water and grind it into smooth paste.

Then open the cooker lid and add this coconut mixture.Mix well and cook in simmer flame for 5 to 10 minutes.

Heat oil in separate pan. Once oil becomes hot, add seasoning ingredients. It will splutter right away.

Now pour this over dal mixture and stir well.

That's all! Its ready to serve.

Step 2: Serve

Serve this curry with hot steamed rice. Enjoy!
