Introduction: Cheap Bird Seed/Water Holder

About: From NSW, Australia. I have a bad habit of just making stuff for the sake of making something. I LOVE to cook, eat and make anything i can think up. I have 2 budgies and 4 adult guinea pigs and 1 baby.

Need a new seed or water dish for your bird? Dont want to pay a ridiculous amount for something you can make for under $1 and in less than 5 mins? I have the answer!

After recently getting a new cage for my 2 budgies (that was clearly massive for them), i decided they needed a new food and water bowl because the ones they had in their other cages didnt fit in the new one. I saw some on the internet that were $10 each and didnt want to wait 2 weeks for them to arrive. So instead i gathered some supplies and got to work.

Step 1: Gather Materials

All you need is four around the house items to make this really simple dish is:

Pocket knife or scissors,
1x small bolt (about 2cm),
1x small nut (to fit bolt),
1x small wing nut (to fit bolt),
1x 1.25L empty soft drink bottle.

Step 2: Cut Bottle and Hole

Now you have your materials, you need to cut you bottle to the desired height and a hole 0.5 - 1cm from the lip.
Remember: You can always cut more off but you cant put any back!!!

Step 3: Now the Nuts and Bolts

Now you have cut your hole, you want to put your bolt through it so that the end with the thread is sticking out from the bottle as shown in picture. Then add bolt and tie up very tight!!!

Step 4: WING NUT!!!

Put the wing nut on the bolt but you dont need to do this one up tight because it needs to be able to rotate to get the dish on and off your birds cage!

Step 5: Finished!!!

Fill your birds dish up with water or seed then hang on the cage!!! If you have a larger bird that would be capable of tipping the dish, you may need to repeat steps 2-4 roughly 0.5 cm from 1st bolt to stop him/her tipping their seed or water every where!

To hang up: Rotate wing nut into a vertical position, put through bars on cage, rotate to be horizontal.
To remove: Rotate wing nut into vertical position, pull through bars of cage, done.
Please Note: You do not have to completely remove the wing nut to get dish off. You only have to rotate it!
