I Bought this cheap soldering iron for ten dollars. Because i like make things and upgrade them, I decide to upgrade thist stuff a little bit. The reason to upgrade was, that i several times leave it alone plugged by mistake. It can be dangerous regarding fire, so i needed indicating light. The simplest way for me was use switch with pilot light. Problem is that the electric cord leads to soldering iron, so the switch would have be on cord, but it´s weird :D

So i decided for this:

Step 1: Material & Tools

Materials
 1. Switch with pilot light
 2. cable grommet
 3. Ac panel euro plug male
 4. Piece of wire

Tools

 1. Soldering iron
 2. knife
 3. Hot glue gun

Step 2: Prepare Snatd

Layout the parts and mark positions with marker. Then cut holes with soldering iron with cutting tip and smoothing hole with knife

Step 3: Wiring

(She switch can have litle different pins)

After soldering wires I glued them with hot glue gun to isolate for safety.

Step 4: Final

And there is it, "safety" soldering iron with signal light. :)

great

Nice. I put an inline rotary cheapo switch on my iron which already had lights on it and also plug it through a 3 speed fan control so I have a medium heat range as it got so darned hot it wouldn't tin. It just boiled off. Good job though.

zapp
