I think it is a neat idea for passing covert messages but to use it to cheat is a bit far fetched. Statisticaly speaking more people fail open book/note test because they don't study at all and spend the entire time looking up info in their notes and can't finish in time.

Reminds me about something my sister (who graduated, I'm in 9th grade) told me about what they would do when they had to right stuff in philosophy class in 12th grade:
The teacher would often leave the room, but since it was writing, them all starting to talk to each other would not help at all, as if they did copy off each other, it would be obvious when corrected it.

Also, she admitted that when he left during tests they mostly just spent time complaining about the teacher (who they didn't like) so...
In that case, cheating is mostly impossible :)

yea in exams the moderator walks round and rips all the labels off the bottles
Jan 30, 2012. 6:13 PMschumi23 says:
We are aloud drinks if the test is longer then 2 hours at my school, and food if over 4 hours (thankfully, we get very few tests that are 5-6 hours :))
However, just wow, paranoid moderator?

My teachers, when i was in school lets us keep drinks on are desks, but they rip the labels off you could not get away with this.
Oct 17, 2009. 5:52 AMColonel88 says:
The teachers go "Take everything off your desk" so no this doesn't work. The only time it works is in elementary school because in Middle school and HIgh school it's no drinks allowed.

Professor's don't let us have bottles, hats, etc. etc. etc. while taking a test. We're lucky if we get to use calculators :/

in real tests here, they make you take labels off the bottles
Jun 11, 2009. 5:35 PMcyrozap says:
In my school, drinks are not allowed in the classrooms (officially), but some teachers may let you have a bottled water, so it could work, but some teachers might not, so it really depends on the teacher.

This would definately not work on a true English exam. You need to think on your feet for those. Maybe a Math exam, but you need to know how to USE the equations. Science of any type is unlikely. History is possible, but only on the non-application questions, which are few and far between. The only thing I could see this helping with (or any cheating method for that matter) is second languages. At which point, what's the point in cheating? Anyways, that's way too much ink for me to try.

While the method is intriguing initially, it still is not going to work. Professors actually check for cheaters. I had a professor that went as far as to tell us, in detail, the craziest (or, as some might say, most innovative) techniques people had used to cheat. This one is not necessarily new, as tyeo098 said. One thing that I never understood about cheating: If you're going through all the trouble to do this sort of thing, it would be much easier to just study. Then, not only do you know that you learned the information (thus increasing your knowledge in general, and helping you on possible future tests that could be cumulative), and that you earned the grade, but also you're not risking getting caught cheating. Not to mention that if the test is curved, and people who cheat do well, then the rest of the people, who did not cheat, and instead worked for their reward, potentially suffer more than if everyone had actually taken the test, not cheated at it.

I've seen this technique before, but great video none the less. sleeping_gecko, Three reasons for cheating (for me): 1. Cheating is entertaining/fun/etc.. 2. Cheating can be done last minute. 3. And, if nothing else, it can teach complex problem solving skills.
May 14, 2008. 12:37 PMchicks dig me says:
you said that he told you techniques that people have done. could you tell me them
May 15, 2008. 9:04 PMsleeping_gecko says:
He discussed several unusual techniques, but I'd rather not recount any. As an educator, I'd rather not aid or encourage cheating, even if it's just spreading some information. I don't mean to be a grouch, but I do feel somewhat strongly about this issue.
Apr 6, 2010. 1:17 AMqaisjp says:
I would probably agree, but there are mostly adults on here anyways....so maybe you could explain those odd techniques, as a teacher and a moderator, ill like to take a peep about what my children really do!
May 16, 2008. 12:38 PMchicks dig me says:
thats okay, iv already heard some pretty odd ways of cheating
Jan 2, 2008. 4:05 PMicedragon9559 says:
I like to think of cheating as a back up plan, if I don't know something I can always use my "back up" to save me and finding the information to cheat with is like studying but more interesting. It is hard work not to get caught, so you do earn the grade. Also there is a thrill that one gets when they cheat and get away with it.
Jun 11, 2009. 5:38 PMcyrozap says:
Same with me. I remember most things, but usually forget the key information that holds everything together (important spanish vocab, for example).

Its easy not getting caught as long as you make absolutely no change in behavior and use methods that require little action to pull off.

absolute genius. i wonder if you could get the plastic-ish stuff that they use on coke bottles, instead of plain paper?
