Introduction: Cheating Pen for High-Schoolers/College-Attendees

Picture of Cheating Pen for High-Schoolers/College-Attendees

Pocket-sized pen that can hide your notes. With a flick of your thumb, you push out your notes that will save your grade!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials!

Picture of Gather Your Materials!

- Swiss Army Knife
- Possibly a hunting knife if you're frustrated
- Stapler
- A Pen to write your notes
- A Pen to modify into your cheating utensil
- A Marker

Step 2: Prep Your Pen for an Incision

Picture of Prep Your Pen for an Incision

Take your pen apart. It should be a simple design like the 3-piece I have.

Then use your marker to mark a 1 1/2 or 2 inch line. It should be straight.

Then use the Swiss Army Knife to start cutting. I got frustrated, so I started using the hunting knife.

My Technique
1. Poke a hole
2. Start twisting
3. Shave off excess plastic with the edge
4. Repeat :D

Step 3: Get a Staple for the Pen's Ink Holder

Picture of Get a Staple for the Pen's Ink Holder

Get out that stapler and switch it to the setting where it becomes straight. Press once for a Straight Staple(Second Image kinda blurry).

Use your Swiss Army Knife, and no you don't need your Hunting Knife, and use either the Knife, Screwdriver, or Cork Twister to make a small hole at the top of the Pen's Ink Holder.

Now, you may need to straighten out the staple. Shove it into the hole as far as you can, the farther the better.

If its loose, get out the Krazy Glue or any Instant Bonding Glue and insert a bunch into the Pen's Ink Holder. It should bond instantly and create a rubber-like sealant.

Step 4: Get Your Modified Ink Holder Into Your Pen Barrel.

Picture of Get Your Modified Ink Holder Into Your Pen Barrel.

This is a hard part and may require a couple tries.

Bend the staple a bit, just enough so its springy. Shove it into the barrel, and you'll start to see your staple through the line you cut.

Now use either the Knife, Nail Filer, or Cork Twister to pull out the staple from the line you cut.

Almost done, next step you'll add your note!

If the staple is sharp and it hurts to push it, get out some electrical tape or a small piece of rubber to put over your staple.

Step 5: Prepare Your Note!

Picture of Prepare Your Note!

Measure out how much paper you need from however much ink you see.

Use either Krazy Glue or Tape to glue or tape down your message.

Roll it up tight!

Now push the Ink Holder back inside the pen
(If the paper is too thick, cut it smaller and write smaller.)

I hand wrote it, but if you want more notes on smaller paper, type it up.
Use your computer to type up in 1 or 2 font.

Step 6: Final Test

Sorry for the awkwardness, I was only able to use one hand because I was recording with the other.

And yes I did get minus 5 for spelling Instructables wrong on the test.

This instructable is great. A creative way to hide something in plain sight. I'm sure we can all agree that (using any method) cheating does far more damage to learning than any of the benefits. But for passing a secret, hand encrypted message...Genius!

chittychitty08 (author)2011-11-13

i came up with a really good one in highschool and had the strictest teacher and she never knew. alot of schools now have kids wearing landyards with a student id attached to it. i simply typed in font size 2 the answers and taped it to the back of the id. it was low enough to be below the desk and as i leaned forward the id hit my thighs and exposed to answers itself. i covered my eyes (like i was thinking, with my finger across my eyebrows) and snuck a peak. worked like a charm :) so if you have one of those school that use id's. cheat away :)

Ph3nomin0n (author)2008-10-23

Stupid crapping all over the idea! Its a good idea and he deserves credit for making this... but just to shut people like this up before they start talking, id put a disclaimer saying that you do not condone cheating or whatever. Doesnt have to be true, just to shut them up beforehand.

chuckr44 (author)Ph3nomin0n2010-11-12

I did this in 1984. It's not new.

kdodgesport (author)Ph3nomin0n2008-10-29

So the only opinons authorized are favorable?

Ph3nomin0n (author)kdodgesport2008-10-30

I.M.O, yes only favorable opinions should be expressed... People spend too much time making instructables only to be shot down by people like you who tell them " it will never work" "Instead of spending time doing this, study" So either offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and help him make it better or fix errors but thats it. Our moms where right... If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything. That applies here too.

MrMystery96 (author)Ph3nomin0n2009-12-30

I thought that was thumper's mom?

kdodgesport (author)Ph3nomin0n2008-11-17

So, only offer critiques that enable and encourage cheating, interesting. The criticism was not intended to be "unkind" it was however intended to be "CONSTRUCTIVE" in that constructive criticism does not always mean you get to hear what you want or like. Besides, if you really want to accuse someone of not being nice, using your definition and including the use of crude language, re-read your own postings.

kdodgesport (author)2008-10-10

Pretty interesting, however as an instructor myself: 1. This is not, new, unique or the least bit inventive. Instructors see stuff like this all the time and watch for it. 2. Most people who cheat give themselves away because they spend way to much time "sneaking a look" either at another paper or at hidden notes. 3. It usually quite obvious that they do not know the material and therefore deserve the failed grade they will ultimately get. 4. If you spend half as much time and effort productively studying the material as you do trying to figure "new" methods to cheat you just might find yourself being a greater success and actually learn something.

knexjay (author)kdodgesport2010-09-09

it will also get you kicked out of college!

MrMystery96 (author)kdodgesport2009-12-30

I agree.

artyman (author)MrMystery962010-06-25

I agree too.

Rainh2o (author)2009-12-12

This is sad.  If you  put 1/2 the energy into making and thinking this up, you could probably ace the exam without a problem and you would know the material.  You will spend more time and effort in life working to cheat the system then you will actually doing things right.  WAY easier to do things right then waste time cheating.  More profitable and HONERABLE as well.

inergy (author)2009-05-11

i wouldn't cheat on a test but you could keep secret messages in it

radracer (author)2008-03-23

I don't like to criticize, but I really don't like anything that makes the world easier for dumb people. Way to make America more mediocre.

ubr.bzkr (author)radracer2008-10-05

Well personally as an American I feel quite smart when I discover a new way to cheat. Ha Ha... so lazy we all are.

sergmag (author)2008-03-24

but...(damn "but" there is always a "but") by the time I finished taking it out my prof. caught me and took my exam of.;(

LinkFox101113 (author)sergmag2008-09-09

Dude, that sucks. It's all about timing.
Great instructable though.

Flumpkins (author)2008-08-21

Cool! My friend thought up an idea (but never tried it) to put a scope on a pencil and look at other peoples answers

wolf555hound (author)Flumpkins2008-08-23

what the... lol, that might be a bit obvious. also, in like 2nd grade, we had to put folders up, and i just looked through the holes lol

Flumpkins (author)wolf555hound2008-08-23

lol. did anyone ever get caught?

wolf555hound (author)Flumpkins2008-08-23

Flumpkins (author)wolf555hound2008-08-24

Obsessive (author)2008-04-12

Thank you. Another method to add to my growing collection.

cubester808 (author)2008-03-30

i wouldnt cheat but kewl thing

yodasoda6 (author)2008-03-29

don't cheat. other people are getting the same grades for hard work rather than for cheating you probably hear this from old people a lot(im not) but if u keep it up u will probly regret it. just my advice...

pieboy1992 (author)2008-03-24

great instructables dude! i would replace all the images with brighter ones though, i can barely see anything. otherwise, it was good.

jonslilbro (author)2008-03-23

I love how he wrote "Instuctables is awesome" and spelled instructables wrong.

damntourists (author)jonslilbro2008-03-23

my favorite part too.

damntourists (author)2008-03-23

if you need to cheat, you shouldn't be receiving a diploma or degree. common kid, i assume you have a good head on your shoulders; so use it.

bumpus (author)2008-03-23

try it with the flash on next time

rocknrollskwurl (author)2008-03-23

works if you have one of the ones with windows and messages inside, just altranate the inside sayings

GorillazMiko (author)2008-03-23

You need brighter pictures, but nice idea!

Shadow Dragon (author)2008-03-23
