Introduction: Cheerleading Stunt-back Hand Spring Into Extension

 The first step to performing a cheerleading stunt is to make sure you have everything you will need to perform the stunt, and all of the help that you will need, because this stunt cannot be performed alone.

a. Wearing loose comfortable clothes allows you to move around freely, which is very important for this task. Also, you don't want your clothes to be too baggy because you might get caught up on them, or someone else in your group will. 

b. It is imperative to have a mat underneath you while you are performing this stunt, especially if it is something that you have never tried before. 

c. There must be at least four people to perform the task, and it is highly recommended to have an extra two people just for spotting. It is good to have spots if you are unfamiliar with the stunt.

d. The room that you are stunting in must have a high ceiling because the flyer will be on top of the bases hands, which are extended up over their heads. 

e. It is important to stretch before this activity because it is strenuous and rather intense on your body.

f. A flyer is the person that gets held up into the air. There are two bases that hold each foot of the flyer. There is a back spot that stands behind the flyer that pulls up on the flyer's ankles. 




Step 1: Just for the Flyer

Stand with your back to your stunt group and hands to your side.

Step 2:

 Swing your arms back and sit like your going to sit in a chair (don’t actually sit down.)

Step 3:

 Push off with your legs as hard as you can and bring your arms straight over your ears, locking them into place. 

Step 4:

 As soon as your hands hit the ground, snap your legs onto the ground.

Step 5:

 Immediately after your legs hit the ground jump up and backwards into the arms of your bases, into the cradle position. 

Step 6:

 As soon as you hit the cradle position pop up putting your hands on your bases shoulders, and your feet into their hands.

Step 7:

 While you are in the air, stay stiff, and wait for your bases to cradle you. 

Step 8: Just for the Base

 Start off facing the other base.

Step 9:

 Catch your flyer in the cradle position.

Step 10:

 Pop your flyer into the air (bend your legs and push up with your arms) catching one of her feet. (It is very crucial to have good timing with the other base)

Step 11:

 Once her foot is in your hand, push straight up extending your arms over your head.

Step 12:

 After she is sturdy up over your head, dip with your legs and flick with your wrist.

Step 13:

 Catch your flyer in the cradle position. 

Step 14: Just for the Back Spot

Start off behind the bases.

Step 15:

 Catch underneath your flyer’s arms as she jumps into the cradle position.

Step 16:

 Bend your legs and pop her back up, now grabbing her ankles, pulling up as hard as you can.

Step 17:

 When she is extended into the air you must keep your hands on her ankles the entire time.

Step 18:

 After the stunt is sturdy, call the cradle. Bend with your knees and let go of the ankles, catching again underneath the armpits.

Why didn't / couldn't you upload the video, or at least take screen-captures? It must have been some work for you to photograph the monitor.

I dunno.  This lacks the concept of "progressions."  But athletics aren't easilly learned from reading anyway ("hit the ball with the bat."  Right.)  Seems to me there are three pieces here, each of which needs to be learned separately before you can put them together.  There's the Back Handspring, there's going up, and coming back down.  As a (former) gymnast, I can only comment that the Back Handspring can take years to learn :-(

Nice (and interesting) job on explaining the different functions of the different people involved, though some definitions might be useful.  ("Base", "Back Spot", "Cradle Position".  I guess "flier" is obvious :-)

A video of the whole thing put together would be good to include.
