I love potatoes. They are so versatile and are used in so many recipes. They can be made into complex dishes or simple recipes. This is a very simple but delicious dish. It only takes about an hour to make and requires very few ingredients. This cheesy potato dish makes an easy and delicious dinner.

Step 1: Ingredients

Picture of Ingredients
Ingredients:
5-7 Russet Potatoes
Cheddar Cheese
Sour Cream
Butter
Cooking Spray

Materials:
Knife
9 by 9 inch pan

Step 2: Prepare the Potaotes

Picture of Prepare the Potaotes
Peel the skin off of all the potatoes that you plan on using. Cut the potatoes into thin slices. The slices don't have to be supper thin but they can't be extremely thick. I used a mix of both thick and thin but it is really up to you.

Step 3: Assemble the Casserole

Spray the pan with cooking spray or grease it with butter. Take the potato slices and cover the bottom of the pan. Make sure that most of the bottom is covered. Spread little dots of sour cream over the layer of potatoes. Next, take several small pieces of butter and drop them on the potatoes. FInish the layer by sprinkling cheddar cheese over the potatoes. Repeat this step until there are 3 layers of everything. Top it with a final layer of potatoes. To finish, sprinkle the top with a thick layer of cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Baking

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. The cheese on the top of the casserole should be a bubbling and gold.
We recently made this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Glass-Potato-Chips/?ALLSTEPS and used the potatos for this recipe. They were seasoned with oil and salt and baked in the oven for almost half an hour, and tasted fine as a side-dish all by themselves, but with the sour cream and the cheese, they were perfect. Thanks for this recipe!

I am English living in France, despite this I have no idea what "cooking spray" is. Is it safe and if so what is it for?

Since i love cheese and I love potatoes, this is making me uncomfortably hungry. I have a bag of potatoes and lots of cheese.... think I will whip down to the store and pick up some sour cream.

Guess what i'm having with supper tonight?

Thanks for the idea. Great instructable!

Yeah! Tell me how it turns out!
Yummy! That's how! I didn't put salt on the potato slice layers... will next time, but I added some when I ate it so no problem.

The sour cream adds a delicious depth to the flavor!
