Children's project table, with stools

Children\
This is a kid-sized table for drawing, coloring, building with Legos, doing puzzles, or whatever.

My kids have needed their own project table for quite some time. This was made as a present for them for Christmas this year. There were only a couple of requirements: it needed to be big enough for two kids, and it needed a little bit of storage somewhere for paper, crayons, etc., and it should be made out of stuff I already had around.

This is what I ended up with. Thank you for looking!

Step 1Materials

Materials
I had some old counter tops which I had been saving for a project like this, and about three quarters of a sheet of 3/4" MDF. I also used some pine boards, and a small piece of 1/4" masonite.

Along with drywall screws and wood glue, I used the following tools:

Circular saw
Corded drill
Cordless drill
Clamps
Straight edge (I use an old piece of laminate flooring)
Router
Palm sander
Pocket hole jig
Various bits, including counter sink bits

Forget about the kids, I want this as my project bench! It just the right thing for fly tying, electronic or as a ham shack. A light could be attached to the underside of the shelf and a power board to the back. There are lots of possibilities to expand this bench such as extra shelves or a peg board for hanging tools.

great instructable... I dont have kids myself (yet) but I'd imagine a nice addition to this worktop would be some storage area so that 'things can be tidied away' (o; well documented /pauric
