Introduction: Chilled Drinking Water

A small tap mounted on the sink dispenses chilled drinking water.

Step 1: Modify Beer Fridge

Our normal fridge has ice but not water. The beer fridge is in the basement below the kitchen sink. I drilled a 3/4" hole through the side of the fridge. Tapped into the water line before the softener and ran a 1/4" copper line to the beer fridge then to the sink. Originally it was the coil only, but the volume of chilled water in the line was small. I added the charcoal filter to use as the reservoir.

The hole was resealed on the inside of the fridge with silicone and outside with spray foam. the line going to the sink is covered with preformed pipe insulation.

Total cost $60

That's really cool lol! (Pun intended) I guess if you don't have a spare beer fridge sitting around, you could do the same thing with your regular fridge.

Awesome hack! Nice use for that extra space in the fridge. Thanks for sharing!
