Chimney Sweeper Prop (Like in Mary Poppins)

Here is a short sweet and simple I'ble to showe you how I made my own Prop Chimney sweep brush for this years Gang show

~* I'm entering this into the Epilog Challenge as I would LOVE a laser cutter, it would make, making props ALOT easier*~

Step 1: Ingredients

Okay, so not much this time:

• Two cardboard circles
• Cardboard rectangle
• Scissors/ Knife
• Pen
• Art straws or BBQ sticks
• Glue gun
• Paint
• Broom handle

Step 2: Brush Head

So, as I said, this is an easy one, all you need to do is start glueing down your art straws to the cardboard circles to form the brush

I did this in two parts, so that it made the bristles look thicker.

Don't glue the two completed brush heads together yet

Step 3: Paint

Now paint the bush heads and your broom pole a nice sooty black... I also added abit of brown and silver to the bristles to make them look more realistic

Step 4: Glue the Brushes Together....

Now is the time to glue your two cardboard circles together, I made sure that when I glued them together, you couldn't see the ends of the art straws... It became if you will... a bristle... cardboard circle... sammich ;)

Step 5: Attach Head to Pole

Using a small rectangular piece of cardboard you now need to attach the bristles to the pole...

I did this by bending a piece of card arround the broom handle to get the right width, and glueing the seams together

When that is dry, attach the cardboard tube to the underside of your bristle/ brush head

Remember to paint the cardboard tube to the same colour as that of your pole

You will probably want to glue the tube to the pole, so go for it... mine is left un-glued so that I can transport the prop without damaging it

Step 6: Fin

And that's that really... there isn't much to it so give it a go...

I promise I'll take a better picture in the next few days, I'm just busy with the final bits of props that need making
