Picture of Chocolate Acorns
I wanted to add some more decoration to the cookie tray and thought that these would be a beautiful edible addition. I originally wanted to do white Hershey Kisses as the bottom but because we live in the country and they are difficult to find (even when they are available). I decided to go for the traditional peanut butter and chocolate combo.

Items I used:
Peanut Butter
Hershey Kisses
Chocolate Chips
Almond Bark

Parchment Paper

Step 1: Make the Cookies

Picture of Make the Cookies
The Peanut Butter recipe I used for the cookies is flourless and very simple. I figured since I was using such a small cookie that the strong peanut butter flavor would be a good idea.

Before I started my cookies, I went ahead and turned my oven on to 350.

Recipe for the Peanut Butter Cookies:

1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 Tsp of Vanilla

Combine the ingredients above and mix using the mixer.

These look great. Will have to make these to go with the chocolate mice the wife makes. A maraschino cherry with the stem dipped in chocolate, a Hershy's Kiss for the face and nose and 2 almond slivers for the ears.

That would be a really cute combo!

I understand what Almond Bark is, but I've never seen it look quite like your picture...could you just use a few kisses melted as the "glue" instead? Not sure where to get the stuff you are using...Very very cute. I may have to give these a try before Christmas!

I'm not a chocolate expert but almond bark for me was a little easier. Plus we happened to have a bunch of almond bark left over from other projects. :)
We used melted chocolate as you suggested and it worked great! We also used the mini vanilla wafers (as suggested in the comment below) after a failed attempt at making mini shortbread cookies. Saved a boatload of time! They came out great and will make great additions to cookie gift trays.

As long as you don't forget where you hide your chocolate acorns... life is good!

I made these with mini nilla waffers and a pretzel stem. I used a drill bit to finger drill a whole for the stem. http://cooperboone.com/cooperboone/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Acorn-Cookie-300x190.jpg

I love the peanut butter cookies made this way. Very easy and good!
Those are adorable! I love them! You would love meringue mushrooms if you like acorns. I wonder if there's an instructable for those...?
