Introduction: Chocolate Candy Ice Cream Cake

About: I have been sewing and crafting for several years, my children are grown so now I have lots of time to be creative. I enjoy photography, cooking, cake decorating, painting and sharing my projects with others.

There are some days when you just have to have an ultimate chocolate cake!

Well, here it is. This project will take all day to assemble but it will be worth it!

This cake is not for the faint of heart, it's for those of us who consider themselves genuine chocoholics.

My Grandson wanted an ice cream cake for his birthday so I found a video but the person making it had the ice cream layer on the bottom and since I would be transporting my cake across town. I decided that there needed to be a layer of cake over and under the ice cream.

You will need to have room in your freezer for the entire cake.

Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies

For this project you will need the following:

Chocolate Cake mix

vegetable oil

3 eggs

Can of prepared chocolate frosting

Carton of Vanilla Ice Cream

(11) 1.5 ounce Kit Kat Bars

M & M's- 11.4 ounce bag

...............................................................................................

(2) 8" round cake pans

Large mixing bowl

10" round plate

mixer

plastic wrap

Step 2: Ice Cream

Place 3 layers of plastic wrap in one of the cake pans with enough extra hanging over the sides to wrap over the top.

Scoop all of the ice cream into the pan and press down and level with a wooden spoon.

Bring the plastic wrap over the top and seal.

Place ice cream in the freezer for at least 4 hours, you can do this step the day before if you want.

When the ice cream is frozen solid again, remove it from the cake pan but keep it in the plastic wrap.

Put the covered ice cream back in the freezer.

You'll need the cake pan to bake the cake in.

Step 3: Cake

Bake the chocolate cake according to package directions in (2) greased 8" round cake pans.

Remove cake from oven and allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes.

Remove cake from pans and place on cooling racks, rounded top side up.

When the cake is completely cooled, level the tops with a long serrated knife.

Step 4: Layers

Place one layer on the 10" plate. remove the plastic wrap from the ice cream and place on top of cake.

Take the second cake layer and place over the ice cream.

Place back in freezer for 30 minutes.

Step 5: Frosting

Frost the top and sides of cake. It doesn't have to be perfect because the kit-kat bars will hide any flaws.

You'll have to work very quickly because the ice cream will start to melt.

Unwrap the Kit-Kat bars, break them apart in pairs and place them vertically around the side of the cake.

Pour the M & M's evenly over the top of the cake.

Place cake back in the freezer until ready to eat.

Serves 10-12 ordinary people, or 4 rednecks.

And don't even ask me how many calories are in each serving because I can't count that high...

Step 6: The Finished Product

If you want to tie a ribbon around the cake it adds a little extra touch.

Enjoy!
