Introduction: Chocolate Mocha Cake

This is a delicious dessert to make for any occasion, or just because. With the slight hint of coffee, almost everyone will enjoy it!

Step 1: Ingredients

To make this cake, you will need:
  • chocolate cake mix or your favorite recipe (and everything that it calls for except the water)
  • coffee (enough for your cake plus about 1/2 cup more)
  • chocolate frosting
  • 8oz white melting chocolate

Step 2: Making the Cake

prepare your cake according to the cake mix you are using or your recipe. Add coffee in place of water and leave everything else as it is. Use 2 8 or 9 inch round pans. Bake according to the recipe directions. When it is done cooking, remove from the pans and let cool for about 10 minutes. Once cooled, cut the round part off of one of the cakes to flatten out the top.

Step 3: Frosting the Cake

To flavor the frosting, place a large glob of frosting in a bowl. Add a small amount of coffee to the frosting and stir vigorously. Add more as desired, but not so much that the consistency of the frosting is changed.  Place the bottom cake on a foil-covered cardboard circle cut to fit under the cake. Cover the top of the cake in the frosting. Place the next layer on top, flat side up. Cover the entire cake in a thin layer of frosting and place in the freezer for 1 hour, or until the frosting is hardened. Remove from freezer and coat in another layer of frosting, this time smoothing it out. Place in freezer again for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Topping the Cake With White Chocolate

Place the white chocolate in a microwave safe container and microwave for 15 second intervals until melted completely. Remove the cake from the freezer and slowly pour the white chocolate onto the center of the cake and allow to spread out. If needed, use a spatula  or  knife to spread the chocolate around. Again, place in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, place a star pastry tip in the bottom corner of a ziplock bag. Cut the corner of the bag so that about half of the tip is on the inside of the bag. Place a small glob of the mocha frosting in the bag. Remove the cake from the freezer and pipe starts around the perimeter of the cake evenly spaced.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Store this cake in the refrigerator for up to a week (but it won't last that long). Great with ice cream or coffee!
