Step 5: Chocolate + Eggs

Slowly fold the egg mixture into the chocolate. It will resist cooperation at first. Your persistence will pay off and eventually you will have a beautifully incorporated filling.

I just made it today and I'm looking forward to surprising the wife for her birthday! This is my first pie ever, really excited! I made one chocolate and the other was peanut butter chocolate. I took a gamble and made 2 pies at the same time, had to bake them a bit longer to make sure they were complete. Hope they both came out ok!

If I may suggest, I felt like I was a bit frantic (probably because it was my first pie and I was making 2 at the same time) making the filling while melting the chocolate... maybe an order of operations would be helpful! As far as when to make the whipped cream, (I figured out that you can just refrigerate the finished cream) maybe include that you can put it in the fridge for those that don't know better. Other than that it was very simple to follow and you were right, after smelling it while it was cooling, that is for sure the hardest part!

You are man after my own heart. Why take on one daunting project when you can double it! I'm super excited to hear how the peanut butter one comes out. Did you do it as a layer or mixed in with the chocolate? I may have to make a new pie based on this inspiration! Great tips for newbie bakers :D
It turned out really good! I was very happy with the results. The peanut butter chocolate actually came out better looking (formation wise) but both pies were delicious! As far as how, i didnt layer it, im not fancy enough haha. I mixed in reese peanut butter chips with the milk chocolate. I think the peanut butter made the filling form a bit better, made a more solid pie. Great recipe, will make it again for sure! Thanks scooch!!
The most amazing pie ive ever had. I think next time i'd put a little less chocolate inside, so it tastes more graham crackery... but overall, amazing.

i used keebler everready graham cracker crust.. and bc i live in canada, there was no heavy cream available so i used 35% whipping cream... but still everything turned out amazing.
I am 15 and have no experience baking, and was able to make this...
Most epic. Pie. Ever.
Luckily no one else was around to steal my pie ;P
Now that is an endorsement!
Im getting ready to make this i have tried a few different methods and nothing has a really good flavor hopefully this will be it also different whip cream flavors im thinking mint chocolate chip or ohh white chocolate peppermint i wonder if you use white chocolate what would happen oh man...

would it be good for our Christmas meal ? maybe not use chocolate shavings but chrismas cake decorations, my mum bulk buys edible decorations. she has xmas tree shape decorations. could that be done? someone please help me!

can't wait to make this.my family love chocolate , but I'd have to follow mums pastry recipe.it's half butter, half lard and not to the breadcrumb consistency before adding water

This was so delicious!! I will never make another box pie again!!

If i put the whipped cream on the pie and then put back into the fridge for about six hours, will the whipped cream melt or loose its shape because that's what happened with a different recipe I made. That pie was a pudding pie so I'm not sure if that made a difference. Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks!!

I really thought there was no way a recipe could be this simple and still be delicious. I made this today on a whim and couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

My daughter and I made this last year for Christmas and it was the best pie ever!! I don't even like most pies and I LOVE this! We were talking about making it again this year and I panicked because I couldn't find the recipe. I have been searching chocolate pies all day and FINALLY I found it! I will not lose this again because it is so so good!

I just made a version of this pie with the following substitutions:

1) pecan nut crust (we're doing paleo-ish for Thanksgiving)

2) 10oz bittersweet (60%) Guittard chips

It was amazing, and the first dessert to disappear at Thanksgiving this year. (This is why I don't have a picture to share.) Thanks for the recipe!

These instructions are incomplete. You don't say when to add the eggs, which is very important for novice cooks.

Beat together the three eggs, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 cup of sugar with an electric mixer, until fluffy - about 5 minutes

My dad and aunt aren't in to pies, and have never liked a chocolate pie until this one, they said it was the best they've ever had! And I absolutely agree with them, this was an awesome first pie to make. Thanks!

Great pie. I've made it with the oreo cookie crust. Chocolate nirvana.

accident pic
great stuff love this recipe they make great tarts as well

Do you think that middle schoolers and the teachers would enjoy this and possibly make it 1st place? There is a pie completion happening at our school on 3.1.14 because 3.14 is Pi! :)

This is my favorite recipe (of all the recipes I've posted) to date. Follow it carefully and I think you've got a winner on your hands!

I have made it 2 times already and am making it a third time for my super bowl party dessert. So far it has been delicious every time.

But, I can only find 12oz bags of semisweet chocolate morsels, and I can only find pie crusts that come in pairs; so I just double the recipe and make 2 pies at a time, or at least that is my excuse. Thank you very much for the recipe.

Mmmm. This is delicious! I used unsweetened baking chocolate and just upped the sugar a little (I like it dark) but I accidentally chopped up 8 oz. of chocolate instead of 6 so it ended up REALLY dark and rich. Amazingly decadent! I swirled chocolate syrup on top of the whipped cream and when you cut the slices it makes a cool starburst pattern. Beautiful and tasty! Thanks for a great recipe!
looks delicious!
Wow looks so good!
Being a HUGE fan of chocolate, I'm melting just reading your recipe :D It's definitely on my list to bake. Many Thanks @}>--->---
awesome sauce
This sounds amazing!! Have you tried making it with meringue instead of a whipped topping? Not sure how long to cook with the meringue - don't want to burn it. :)
Looks amazing!
Would you consider adding to the instructions that if you use a store-bought crust, it should be deep-dish? I got regular ones and now I'm left with a ton of leftover filling and don't know if I'll have any room for the topping. If only I'd known, I'd have bought a deep crust. :(

for the part where you have to mix in the eggs to the chocolate sauce, do you mix it while its in the double boiler or do you take the sauce off the heat and then mix in the eggs??

Thanks!!
This looks so delicious.
I made this pie for Thanksgiving. It was so easy to make. <---- Coming from a complete and total dunce in the kitchen.

There was a small piece left over so I had it for breakfast this morning. Lucky me! And, to explain the leftover, this pie was one of four large desserts offered.

Scoochmaroo, I am a fan for life now. Thank you for an awesomely delicious and easy recipe!
Woohoo! Glad to hear it all went well for you :D
Does this hold well for a day or two? Like can I make it on a Tuesday and it be ok on a Thursday evening.
wait till thurs to make whip cream, store airtight in fridge till then, i made two today!
Yes, just keep it in the fridge. You're gonna love it!
so far, so good as it cools out of the oven! I made a double batch to completely fill the larger pie crust. turned the heat up to 350 and baked an extra 15 mins. Will let you know how it turns out!
Great instructions! It was delicious.
Wow, this pie was amazing. Thx 4 sharing this recipe. :-)
Wow, this was a great chocolate pie!

I used it in a test.
It was very nice
This may be a dumb question, but during this step is the chocolate still in the double boiler, or is this just simply on the stove top, or is it not on heat at all?
How much does Heavy Whipping Cream cost?
Love this,tried it.
AWESOME!!
