Step 2: Make batter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.  With a handheld mixer, mix on low for about 30 seconds until all ingredients are combined, them mix on high for 2 minutes.
Thanks so much for this instructable! I made these yesterday for my boyfriend's birthday. He brought them to work and they are asking me to make more for Monday (just for the heck of it) I substituted the buttermilk with whole milk. I also used Caramel frosting (Duncan hines) instead of chocolate, which was REALLY yummy. <br>But thank you again! these are quite tasty! :)

could you just use milk for a substitute? and good insturcable! my sister is going to use them for her birthday party! :D
You could totally use milk. I would guess that whole milk might be better. It's just to keep the cupcakes moist :)
