Chocolate Bath Melts - The chocolate that’s good for your thighs

Chocolate bath melts - chocolate that\
Bath melts are fruit or nut butter melts for soaking in the tub. The added ingredients will leave your skin soft, detoxified and smelling terrific. This particular batch I made for valentine's presents, hence the chocolate scent and red foil wrap. You can scent them with any essential oil or fragrance, and do them in any mold, even an ice cube tray.
This is a kid safe project (as you can see by my assistant Igor), and the results are kid safe. And what parent doesn't love things that will get your kids in the tub?

Step 1Gather ingredients

Gather ingredients
This is a pretty simple and quick project. You'll need the following:
  • 1/2 cup Shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter (any solid at room temp fruit or nut butter). For this project I used Shea butter.
*4 tbsp Citric Acid
*6 tbsp Oatmeal (any kind is fine.)
*1/2 cup baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate /sodium hydrogen carbonate / NaHCO3)
*1 teaspoon chocolate fragrance oil. (Or any fragrance oil...essential oils may require much less, depending on the EO used.)
*Something to use as a mold. This batch is about perfect for filling a standard ice cube tray.

Where did you find the chocolate fragrance oil? I can't find any anywhere. I can find just about any scent except chocolate. Any ideas on how to get the scent without the oil?

Also, do you know where I could find (non-lotion) chocolate butter, as I'm assuming the lotion will not hold it's form well enough for this

E-mail Ms. Millie she can get you the chocolate Fragrance oil and her products are not watered down (like hobby lobby's are) I can use 3 - 4 drops of hers where I have to use 1/2 a bottle of the stuff from hobby lobby for my items. 1 container at hobby lobby is $4 and I can only get 2 uses out of it and her small oil size I can get 10-15 uses out of it. she is GREAT!!!

What is the purpose of the citric acid? Would ascorbic acid also work?

I was wondering if I could use solid coconut oil? and could I put in unsweetened cocoa powder to make it darker or would that work?

You could use coconut oil to make bath melts; just remember that coconut oil melts at a lower temp that some of the other solid oils listed in this 'Ible. :D

I haven't tried this with cocoa powder; I imagine it would work just fine, but it will probably "settle" and not blend in well. Not sure though!

Is this kid safe in the sense that they are edible? I don't think they would taste really good and some fragrance oils might be toxic if you leave these around for little kids unattended.

Lol...  I made chocolate soaps last year for everyone in the office....  I put please don't eat me on every single solitary basket....  Some people thought it would be funny to take the warning off the baskets...  I had a lot of people coming up and telling me my candy tasted like soap...  I was like..umm..  That's because it IS soap...
