Introduction: Chopstick Rubber Band Gun

Picture of Chopstick Rubber Band Gun

A fun, simple to make, and good for a rainy day. You only need 6 chopsticks and a grip of rubber bands (3 if you dont want any ammo).

Step 1: Materials

Picture of Materials

All you need is 6 chopsticks and a grip of rubber bands(3 if you dont want ammo) Sorry for the minor color distortion on this first picture, my camera went crazy.

Step 2: Trigger and Body

Picture of Trigger and Body

Put the chopsticks how the picture shows it and then wrap the rubber band like how its shown so the bottom of the trigger points forward(if it points backward it will be hard to shoot, load, aim, .ect) Dont ask about the orange thing, its probably a Lucky Charm *slaps brother on the head*

Step 3: Barrel (Well, Thats What I Call It)

Picture of Barrel (Well, Thats What I Call It)

Ok, now were on to the barrel. Put two chopsticks on top and on bottom of the front of the body and wrap the rubber band like its shown and then do the same thing to the other side so the barrel and the body are perpendicular

Step 4: Fireing Method

Picture of Fireing Method

Pull the bottom part of the trigger towards yourself ( i finnaly got a finished product pic, but its small)

I was 11 when I first posted this instructable. Now I'm 20. My 11 year old self was so adorable and misunderstood. I wish I could go back in time and talk to him. I'm so different now. What motivated that little boy?

This is another rubber band gun

Also made by chopsticks and rubber bands. It killed some flies (see youtube at the bottom of the page.)

Zerophoenix1 (author)2010-11-21

This instructable was mostly to illustrate the principle behind a basic rubberband gun. When i first posted this i was like 11 and there was nothing about it on the internet, now there are some really badass ones.

drummonkey92 (author)2007-09-23

i think i may have dun it rong, it fires but iv only used 5 chopsticks, and the barrel seems to be completely asthetic because i dont use it at all in my loading/firing method

its for strength, if you want to use smaller, thicker bands (more powerful) 1 chopstick there will eventually slide back.

half3mpty (author)2007-12-06

dude, this is friggin gey. any of u guys want a ruber band gun made of chopsticks comment me cuz i made like 50 of these. LOLZ. me friend made a balsa wood rubber band shotgun that shoots 4+ bands at once.

Zerophoenix1 (author)half3mpty2010-11-21

Metalmilitia5150 (author)2007-04-16

Well its not like the tarp method is failing I was just curious if there might be an even easier way to stop arrows if you miss. It works like this when an arrow is fired at the back stop the thick material the tarp is made of actually stops it. The advice I need is that when I use the green tarp it sometimes stops it but the material the green tarp is made of is almost plastic like its not tough enough to stop a speeding arrow. Any suggestions to strengthen the green tarp?

Hey metalm, have you tried backing your tarp with a heavy curtain or blanket?

some sort of chan mail thing, a gate, there are also some good spray on polymers that can thicken thr tarp....also, are the arrows sharp?

Metalmilitia5150 (author)2007-04-07

Oh sorry dude it just sounded like you did. I didn't mean to offend you or anything It just seemed like you were trashing someones instructable. Hey by the way do you have any advice to perfect my backstop? just wondering because I'm always open to suggestions.

srry for long response time my comp was weird for a while...ill be happy to help you on your backstop...first youll have to tell me what it is.

Metalmilitia5150 (author)2007-04-06

Are you kidding me and you have the nerve to say other peoples instructables are bad.

I dint dis anyones instructable

Zerophoenix1 (author)2007-01-23

This is my first instructable, please dont insult it/me to bad.

No offense but all that to shoot a rubber band... pointless

I build mine out of skewers cut the points off made it crossbow and it fires skewers pretty cool i get a pic up soon

im sorry but alot of people use that for an exuse take led throwies that was a first and it has the second most comments

well throwies are awesome this project isnt that cool...and its not an excuse it is my first instructable'

sorry i was a bit cranky that day well im sorry i think its pretty good instructable not that our is bad but most people do use that as an exuse

Vertigo666 (author)Zerophoenix12007-01-25

i like the cartoons/drawings whatever you want to call them

anotherkill (author)Zerophoenix12007-01-25

i get it now. make the trigger, and from there, use the 2 chop sticks comming out to make the "barrel". Put the shotting rubberband on the sticking out portion of the barrel and loop it on the trigger chop stick, the one now sticking up. from there, pull down on that trigger to let the rubberband fly off Still, a finaly product picture would be helpful

jerielng (author)2007-02-23

is this supposed to hurt? because mine doesn't

jerielng (author)jerielng2007-02-24

How do I do that? Could you post it here?

Zerophoenix1 (author)jerielng2007-02-24

just extend the "barrel" to how ever long you want, or find your own mod, my uploading problem still curses me so i cant post any pics

Zerophoenix1 (author)jerielng2007-02-23

no its not unless you mo it sniper mode then it stings

mo was supposed to be mod

jerielng (author)2007-02-22

at first i couldn't work but now it works fine. you have to have a thick rubber band.

ArrowBow (author)2007-02-19

Hey I figured it out and it works pretty good.I added on some mods and stuff theres lots of building room for this gun..

Zerophoenix1 (author)ArrowBow2007-02-19

Can u reply the mods to me, that would be real swet

gunmanx (author)2007-02-09

this sucks

Zerophoenix1 (author)2007-01-26

sorry all my pictures wont upload, i only have these

latobada (author)2007-01-25

(I see there is a new "be nice" comment policy) Anyways, it is nice, just you could of included a final step of what it looks like [with an actuall photo], and maybe another step or two. you cant give enough detail, only too little.

latobada (author)latobada2007-01-26

sry, i typo'ed there, it should be actual, and that should not be a link. i have no idea why it became a link.

crapflinger (author)2007-01-25

hopefully this comes out as constructive but... i'm sure your instructions would make sense if i actually tried to build it...but...why would i try to build this if the instructions given aren't very clear? you don't have a picture of the final product (only close-ups of the steps) and the little drawing doesn't really show how it works or how to load it..or how to fire may want to be more descriptive with the pictures AND the instructions
