Introduction: Christmas "Crack"

About: Manufacturing Engineer student, passionate about hands-on projects and learning!

If you're a chocolate and peanut butter aficionado, like myself, you'll absolutely adore this recipe. No worries, this recipe was readily named after the addictive drug due to its extreme potential for addiction, trust me, I'm an addict. These cookies are a perfect treat not only for Christmas, but any holiday celebration or gathering. The perfect ratio of sweet and salty is achieved through the butter layers of pure goodness. If you have a sweet tooth in your family, they'll be sure to love this recipe, and be begging you to buy more ingredients. Joyeux Fêtes, et Jouir!

Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 2 Hours 30 Mins

Step 1: Preheat Oven

Preheat the oven to 400°, I usually preheat it to 350° but it was getting late so i wanted it to cook faster. (If you preheat it to 400° you only have to bake it for 20 minutes, whereas if you only preheat it to 350° you have to wait a little longer.)

Step 2: Gather Ingredients

You can use either use a throwaway tinfoil pan, or, as i prefer, a flat cookie sheet with a sheet of tinfoil over the top. *DO NOT use wax paper because it will be stuck to the bottom of the cookies and its extremely difficult to remove!

1-12oz Bag of Peanut Butter Chips
1-12oz Bag of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 Cup of Sugar
2 Sticks of Unsalted Butter
2 Rows of Saltines (I used a little more than 1, it just depends on the pan size)

Step 3: Line the Pan With Saltines

Make sure you cover the bottom of the pan completely with saltines, make sure they're facing salt side up.

Step 4: Cook the Butter and Sugar

Turn the burner on at medium heat and melt and mix the cup of sugar with the sticks of butter. Keep mixing until it has a smooth consistency.

Step 5: Pour the Butter and Sugar Over Saltines

Make sure not to try to spread the mix because it will move the crackers, if you need to you can use a spatula to gently spread it, it's ok if it doesn't cover all the crackers (especially on the edge).

Step 6: Spread the Chips Evenly

It tastes better if you put the peanut butter chips first, then the chocolate chips, it's ok if the chocolate and PB chips don't cover everything because they will melt.

Step 7: Bake Until Frothy

At 400° this takes about 20 minutes. Make sure the edges don't burn.

Step 8: Freeze, Crack Into Pieces, and Enjoy

Take it out of the oven and freeze for at least 2 hours. It tastes better when it's colder so i prefer to freeze it overnight, either way works. When it's done freezing, take it out and crack into pieces, the tinfoil makes this step easier (if you used a throwaway pan you can just twist the pan and crack it that way, either way works). Each batch will make about 40 cookies depending on how big you make them.

Enjoy! :)
