Introduction: Classic Paper Airplane

These are instructions for a classic paper airplane. It is very simple and easy to make, and I'm guessing most paper airplane builders already have experience with this design or a variation of this design. For those of you that are completely new to the concept of paper airplanes, where you fold a sheet of paper into the proper shape, allowing the paper to glide through the air, keep on reading...

Step 1: Get Supplies

Start out by getting the supplies that you will need to make yourself a paper airplane. You will need a sheet of paper, a paper clip, and two hands to fold the airplane...

Step 2: Hamburger Fold the Paper

Once you have assembled you minimal supplies, take the sheet of paper and hamburger fold it. That means put it in front of you with the wider side of the paper facing you. Fold the paper in half.

Step 3: Fold in Corners

You will next unfold the hamburger fold that you just made so you can see the crease where the middle of the paper is. Take one of the corners of the paper, and fold it to this crease. You then will repeat with the other corner, resulting in what can be seen in the pictures attached to this step. You should have the paper coming to a point around the center of the paper on one side, symmetrical around the center.

Step 4: Fold in Corners Again...

Repeating what you did on the last step, take the corners that you already folded in to the center of the paper and fold those angled edges to the center of the paper a second time.

Step 5: Fold in Half...

Take your airplane so far and fold it in half down the center. You are refolding the original hamburger fold that you made in step 1 here.

Step 6: Fold Down Wings

This is the step that gives the plane it's lift. On each of the two flaps of the paper airplane, fold down the paper so you create wings.

Step 7: Add Paper Clip

Most of the airplanes weight will be in it's nose since most of the paper was folded up there. To keep the plane in the air longer instead of having it do a nosedive, put a paper clip somewhere near the back of the airplane to balance out the weight a bit.

Step 8: Fly Your Plane...

Your airplane is done. All that is left now is to fly the plane. Hold it on it's underside, and give a quick strong throw and watch it glide!
