If you are thinking about raising chickens...why not Cochins? Intelligent, beautiful, talkative and unique in form, they were once the preserve of the Emperor of China and later Queen Victoria, to whom he gave a couple as a gift. Shown in the Birmingham Poultry Exhibition of 1850 and 'boomed' throughout the land, the birds caused a furore which led to the 'Cochin craze', a period where exhibition subjects changed hand for fabulous sums. In 1953 a single Cochin sold for £2,587 ($4196) today that would be around £188,000 ($304,992). Hope you'll be crazy about them too!
