The idea behind this came from a trip to Thailand where I saw quite a few different lights made out of coconuts, dried coconuts that is, with the white fleshy meat removed.
So here is my way of making some rustic lights for your house or garden shed that wont cost you an arm or a leg. First gather all your bits up which should include
1. 1 x 40cm 2 inch bamboo pole
2. 3 x 30cm 1/2 inch bambo poles (or 1m length cut twice)
3. 2m of 10mm natural thread rope
4. 3 x coconuts, husk on
5. 3 x two pin halogen light fixtures
6. one small tub of expoxy resin glu
You will also need a drill and drill bit set to make these lights and a cut circle disc.
First cut each coconut in half and drill a 5mm hole in the top of each one, make sure you remove the white fleshy stuff from inside the coconut. Then I just stick the rope on the top with some glue, in a circular pattern about three coils deep, this was left to dry over night.
Next the two inch bambo post had three half inch holes drill at the base, equal distance apart at 3cm above the base. Into here the 1/2 inch 30cm posts where glued in and allowed to set over night. It is important not to glue them in two deep as you will need to pull an electric line through each one, or an electrician will!
The next day the coconuts each had a 2 pin halogin light fixture glued up into the middle of the cup with the electric line pushed up through the whole drilled the previous day. The last thing was to glue the rop onto each of the ends of the 1/2 bamboo posts, doing this wrapping the rope up onto these posts through a hole.
I would get an electrician to come in and wire it up where you want it, thanks to the guys at www.deedeevillas.com dee dee villas on Koh Phangan for giving me this idea.

Hello, and welcome to the Instructables community! It's great that you've decided to tell the world about something you've made by publishing an Instructable. We just wanted to let you know that your project still needs a little more work if you want it to be well received on Instructables. Projects that don't include certain basic elements tend not to get the attention that they deserve, and so we'd love for you to check out the list below of what makes a successful Instructable. Successful projects on Instructables include: - clearly written details of a finished project with instruction - as many steps as are necessary to explain your project - clear images that you took of your project for most, if not all of your steps - an intro image - proper spelling and grammar - appropriate cautions or safety considerations I'll give you another opportunity to make any final changes to your project before we publish it. Once you're all set to go, please republish your project and send me a quick comment letting me know that you've made some changes. I'll give it a quick final check to make sure you're on the right path, and then remove this note. Thanks for your submission and we hope to see your project published soon!
