I am giving a friend of mine fresh ground coffee for Christmas this year.  This instructable was inspired by the gift wrapping contest.  I always make an effort to wrap my gifts an extra notch because I can't afford to buy expensive gifts.  I can however,  make them look classy and pretty giving them a great presentation.  All of my family and friends seem to appreciate these gifts from my heart. Follow me through the pages and I will show you how to make ground coffee look like a gourmet brand using a bag for the package embellishment.

Step 1: Supplies

  • Scrap 4 1/2 X 7 inches off white fabric washed, dried and ironed
  • Matching thread
  • 1 yard Jute for the draw string
  • Black tube paint with a sharp pointed tip
  • 2 Buttons or embellishments for the draw string.
  • Glue
  • Cardboard that will fit loosely inside the bag. This will protect the bag when applying the paint.
  • Safety pin
  • A box wrapped in brown paper and jute tie with an ever green limb.

Step 2: Tools

  • Needle and thread if sewing by hand
  • Sewing machine optional
  • Ironing board and iron
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Marker

Step 3: Pattern/Cutting

  • Cut the one fabric as shown 4 1/2 X 7 inches long cut on the fold.

Step 4: Sewing

  • Sew along the bottom and side of the bag with right sides together.
  • Remove from the machine and trim the loose threads.
  • Turn right side out.
  • Press well.
The picture below shows a jute string where you are going to sew the bottom and sides.  It is only a guide.

Step 5: Top

  • Press under the top edge 1/4 inch.
  • Press well.
  • Turn the edge under one more time.
  • Press well.
  • Go to the machine stitch along the edge.
  • Remove from the machine and trim loose threads.
  • Press well.

Step 6: Jute Draw String

  • Trim one small hole very carefully cutting only through one layer of fabric as shown.
  • This will make a pocket for the jute draw string.
  • Attach the jute string to a safety pin.
  • Thread it through the hole in the bag.

Step 7: Stamping

  • Mark center on the bag.
  • With a pencil write very lightly "Fresh ground coffee"  on the outside of the bag.
  • Using the point of the black paint carefully trace the letters.
  • Set aside to dry.

Step 8: Filling

  • Fill the bag with freshly ground coffee.

Step 9: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

I love to give gifts that the wrapping is not thrown away. When the coffee is all used this bag will become a very useful item to store many different things in.  The receiver will be impressed by the thoughtfulness of this gift wrapping.  The beauty of making bags is you can make them any size you need by adding 1/4 inch to the sides and a couple of inches to the length for the hem turn down.

Thank you for stopping by and have a safe and happy winter!

Just as an idea....You could paint the name on with...Coffee. That leftover cup that is really too long left bitter and strong, just use it to paint the name.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I have not tried that but I think it is a great idea. My mom used to use vegetables for coloring fabric. <br>sunshiine
Adorable!

You can make these any size. All you need to do is add 1/4 inch to the side measurement and a couple of inches to the length.
