Coffee Filter Flowers! Great for Valentine's Day and Spring!

Coffee Filter Flowers tutorial.

They turn out so big and beautiful!
In any color you pick!

These would make the most beautiful Valentine bouquet or decoration!

Step 1: Supplies

To start...you'll need coffee filters.  Coffee filters are magical absorbent paper bowls.

This pack of 100 made 16 flowers for me and cost less than $1.
(you use 6 filters per flower)

Food coloring
Water
Shallow dish

Later on, you'll need:

Stapler
Tape
Scissors
Green Pipe cleaners (optional)

Step 2: Dye the Filters!

Put some water in the dish...about 1/4 cup or so...I didn't measure--it's not science.
add some food coloring...a few drops.
The more color, the more vibrant the filters will look. 
If you want a more muted flower, just add a little.
You could dye your filters with tea for a shabby chic heirloom flower!

Stack about 6-10 filters, fold them up and hold the center.
Dip in the colored water...let the water start to absorb into the filter.
About half way or so...
Then open up and lay the stack on some wax paper or a tray...or just the counter.
Repeat for the rest of the 100 filters.

Let them dry completely.
I kept them out overnight.

Once they are dry, they easily separate into individual filters.

Ready for crafting!
The color lightens up just a bit...but it still stays pretty vibrant.
Let's Make Flowers!

Step 3: Cut the Flowers!

You will need scissors, stapler/staples, washi or
masking tape, green pipe cleaners.
Start with 6 filters.  Each flower will use 6 filters.
Make a stack of 3 filters and fold them in half...repeat.
Fold in half again.

Cut a scallop edge across the top curve.
(you can experiment with different cut edges to make a variety of different flower looks)

Cut the second set of 3 a little bit smaller than the first.

Then open them up.  3 larger then the 3 smaller on top.

Step 4: Assemble the Flowers!

Fold in the center and pinch all 6 layers in the center...
with the small flowers on the inside.
Pinch the center into a point.

Staple the center point, this will keep all 6 layers together.

Open up the center, kind of laying it flat.
Now simply separate the 6 layers, starting with the center one.

Now, each layer after that.  Fluffing it up into the center.
Until the full flower is fluffed!

Essentially, you could stop there...but let's take it to the next level.

Step 5: Tape and Stems!

Now the backside looks tightly pinched.
Take some washi or masking tape and tape around it.
I used washi tape because it's cute!
Wrap it around the stub once.
Or staple on a pipe cleaner first...Then wrap and cover with washi tape.

Now you can give a bouquet of them to a loved one...

Step 6: Decorate!

These flowers are fabulous!
They would make an impressive Valentine's day delivery with some chocolates!
They would look stunning in a vase,
Great for a centerpiece,
Could be stapled on twine for a garland
Hot glued to a wreath form for a Spring wreath!
