Yep, that is how David Blaine did it, too. If you don't or can't spend any money on a gimmicked coin but do have time to practice a little sleight-of-hand, then you can take a dime or quarter and file it down in a vice with a metal file on one side. Just file out little sections so it looks like a bite. It takes a while but then you're set. Finger palm the coin as you ask to borrow a coin from the audience. Make sure it's the same kind of coin! Then, as you take the coin, perform a 'switch'. Do the bite and show your homemade 'gimmicked' coin. Then switch back before handing the coin back for inspection. It works really well and is very powerful becuase you use a borrowed coin (or seem to!) All the best. ;)
