Introduction: Coke Bottle Sputnik Lamp

About: Since the dawn of Lego I've been into making stuff... I'm currently a technology teacher at a secondary school tasked with inspiring the next generation of designers.

Step 1: Gather Your Bottles

You will need 12 glass coke bottles for this Instructable, so get drinking.

You will also need:

Zip ties
Laser cutter
Black acrylic 3mm
Fairy lights
Glue gun

Step 2: Fire the Laser Cannon

Using suitable software draw out 12 pentagons, these will need 2 stitch holes on each side and a joke in the centre big enough to get the bottle top and neck through. I made mine from 3mm black acrylic.

I made my lamp in 2 halves. Push a bottle through each acrylic pentagon, secure with a zip tie and smoother the end in glue gun glue.
Repeat this 5 more times.

Step 3: Zip Tie Stitching

Using the zip ties fasten 6 of the pentagons together, start the ties off loose and gradually tighten them all up.

Step 4: 2 Become 1

You should repeat this process until you have two equal side of your lamp or a top and bottom.
Next take you fairy lights and work out how many you need to shove into each bottle to get a nice even glow.

Step 5: Insert the Fairies

Carefully start to thread your lights into each of the bottles until all the lights are gone.

Niw is the tricky part, fastening the 2 halves together. Carefully thread the zip ties into the holes and start to tighten the 2 halves together, once tightened your lamp should be complete. Trim all the zip ties down and find a dull corner that needs some gentle illumination.
