This is an Instructable for a very special pie: the Coke Cake. This might sound like a strange combination but it tastes really great.

My sister created it by fusing two recipes to create this three layer cake for the birthday of a "Coca Cola" lover.
To celebrate Pi day we decided to bake one with a Pi cover to fit the occasion.

Don't be appalled by the many steps as they are rather short. But this way it is easier to follow. There are also .gifs in nearly every step to illustrate and to entertain =)

Have fun with this cake-Instructable.

Step 1: Ingredients and Utensils

For the dough:
3 1/3 cups flour (400g | 14 oz)
2 cups sugar (400g | 14 oz)
1 1/8 cups butter (250g | 8.8 oz)
1 cup coke (250 ml)
1 cup buttermilk (250 ml)
1 package vanillin sugar
1 tsp baking powder
5 tsp cacao
2 eggs

For the filling:
1 1/8 cups butter (250g | 8.8 oz)
1/8 cup coconut oil (25g | 0.8 oz)
2 cups milk ( 500 ml)
1 package chocolate pudding

For the cover:
1 almond paste roll
1 package almond paste (amount varies depending on your cover)
food coloring (the color is your choice) - we chose red
writing icing (again you choose the color) - we used red

Step 2: Prepare the Dough

Mix the flour with the sugar.
Heat the butter with the cacao and the coke and let it boil for a short time.
Pour it over the flour-sugar-mix and stir it.

Whisk the buttermilk, 2 eggs, baking powder and vanilla sugar. Add this to the previously created mixture and stir it thoroughly.

Butter a 10 inch (26 cm) baking-tin and fill it with the dough.
Put it in the preheated oven:
- electric kitchen stove at 350°F (175°C)
- circulating air at 300°F (150°C)
- gas stove at level 2

Bake it 35-45 minutes. The finished dough is rather moist.

Let it cool for about an hour.

Ingredients:
3 1/3 cups flour (400g | 14oz)
2 cups sugar (400g | 14oz)
1 1/8 cups butter (250g | 8.8oz)
1 cup coke (250ml)
1 cup buttermilk (250ml)
1 package vanillin sugar
1 tsp baking powder
5 tsp cacao
2 eggs

Step 3: Make the Filling

Prepare the pudding as described on the package. We didn't add extra sugar as the cake is sweet enough due to the coke.

Heat the butter and cool the pudding until both have reached room temperature. Stir the butter smooth. Add the cooled pudding in small doses while continually churning everything.

Melt the coconut oil and add it to the creme while it's still hot. Put it in the fridge.

Ingredients:
1 1/8 cups butter (250g | 8.8oz)
1/8 cup coconut oil (25g | 0.8oz)
2 cups milk (500ml)
1 package chocolate pudding

Step 4: Color the Almond Paste

The next step is simple and fun. Put some water in the food color powder and drip it on the almond paste.

Knead it till it is evenly colored.

Put it in the fridge as it is easier to handle if it is cold.

The cover also depends on your preferences. We made it with a Coca Cola logo for apparent reasons and to celebrate Pi day with a Pi. Both files are attached if you want to recreate them.

If the almond paste is cool coast it with the rolling pin. To prevent it from sticking to the pin put it between two sheets of wrapping film. The thickness depends on how much you like almond paste.

Cut out the template and put it on the marzipan. You can use a X-acto knife or any other knife with a sharp tip to cut around the template.

Ingredients:
1 package almond paste (amount varies depending on your cover)
food coloring (the color is your choice)

Step 5: Create the Layers

If the dough is cooled down cut it apart. Three layers of dough are needed.

We used a sharp knife to cut in the crust. This may or may not be necessary depending on the hardness of your crust.
To cut through the cake use a wire layered cake cutter. If you don't own one just use a long knife or a thread.

Take the creme out of the fridge and start to portion it on the layers. Divide the creme in three equal parts. Put it on the first part of the dough and coat it evenly.
Put the middle layer on top of it and repeat the step.
After you've added the top portion the creme not only on the top but also on the side of the cake.

There's a .gif attached which shows the process.

Step 6: The Cover

The cake is now nearly finished. The last thing to do is the cover which is shaped like a crown cap.

Put the almond paste roll on the cake. The center of the roll should roughly be on the center of the cake. Compress the loose ends of the roll as if you'd want to squeeze something.
The .gif shows the process far better than we could explain it so take a look at it.

If you are pleased with the result put the previously cut out Pi (or whatever design you chose) on the cake.

To finish our version of the cake write 12 digits (or as many as you want) around the cake.

Ingredients:
1 almond paste roll
writing icing (again you choose the color)

Step 7: Enjoy

The cake is finished!
Enjoy =)

Interesting recipe. I'll have to try it out for my brother's birthday in May.
looks really TASTY!!
Thank you =)
why did you go from coke to pi
Because of the "Serious Eats Pi Day Pie Contest"... we wanted to add this instructable to the contest and thought a Pi theme would fit it best ;)
cool cake, man.
How do you do the movie-photo thing?
With photoshop. You should find a lot of instructables about making gifs ;)
Huh. I guess I'm still in the dark ages!
well, I'll tell you how to make it stop, if it's still cycling past your attention span. In most browsers you can hit the ESC key to kill all moving gifs. Comes in real handy on elljay and forums.

To the OP: Awesome looking cake!
That's why we never made the first picture a .gif despite in the last step. You can choose if you want to have a moving picture or you can just click on another picture...
I like the coke cake....very creative and good job!
Thank you =)
"Deutsche Markenbutter" *g* Willkommen auf Instructables! Glückwunsch, dass deine erste Instructable direkt gefeatured wurde!
=D vielen Dank
I love coca cola, and I love pie. I never thought of putting two and two together though... GENIUS!
=D it seemed like the best way to add more coke to a coke themed birthday gift...
Awesome! This looks great!!
Thank you =)
