Okay to take apart the Xbox 360 controller you will need a torex 8 screwdriver. (but you can actually get away with using a small flat head). There are 7 screws located on the controller. One is under the sticker where the batter pack is.

khsora in reply to smussoOct 18, 2012. 3:37 PM
spray it white then
kwilson11 says: May 16, 2012. 6:21 PM
i did the same thing with my ps2 controller which was black just use what ever color spray paint as long as you can see your drawings on it and spray that on then once its dry use the markers on it
c0deater says: Feb 11, 2012. 1:19 AM
couldnt you just use acrylic paints and entirley cover it say with white then paint over that if dried, mind yourselfs tho cause that paint if toutched or brushed is very easy to mess up

Do you have to tape it and clear coat it if you are using a broken Xbox 360 controller that got soda all over it?
jrodriguez49 says: Sep 5, 2011. 5:16 PM
this is so cool

why do you have to gut it out? i plan on using markers. do they have to be permanent (like a sharpie)

Btw, Im pretty sure that peeling the sticker off the battery area voids the warranty.... Though that doesnt really matter anyway =P.

Made a new one. Sanded the hell out of the controller first so it has a smooth grip as well as edges. Then left it sitting around for a month or so deciding what to do. Came up with some type of patchwork patterns and put a lot of clear coat over it. The sharpie coloring and clear coating took about a couple weeks because of bad weather, but finally got around to it. This may or may not be the final product.

Wow, that IS pretty awesome. Now I must cook up some designs... bwahahaha
SanguineVisions in reply to sumner072Nov 23, 2010. 8:50 PM
Glad it's liked. Unfortunately the clear coat is coming off as well as the sharpie, when spring comes around again I'm going to try and revamp it and spray paint that gray plate on the back white and continue the design on that.
sumner072 in reply to SanguineVisionsDec 1, 2010. 8:51 PM
It may just need a few extra coats with plenty of time to dry in between. Double check to see if you can get clear acrylic coating, it usually does better than just a clear coat of spray paint. Unless that's what you're already using, then I'll have to come up with some ideas.
SanguineVisions in reply to sumner072Dec 1, 2010. 10:52 PM
Thanks, I'll try and see if I can get some clear acrylic coating, I put a lot of coats of clear coat spray paint (nearly 10) until the sharpie didn't bleed through.

the sweat from your palms would make that run like crazy.
myselfandi in reply to DrewhfFeb 24, 2010. 12:40 PM
not unless it dries smart one
mg0930mg in reply to myselfandiOct 11, 2010. 6:55 PM
You are obviously so smart. Please tell me why the sweat from your palms wouldn't ruin the drawing?
MLA 414 in reply to DrewhfJan 13, 2010. 3:39 PM
thats what the clear covering is for.
golddigger1559 in reply to MLA 414Mar 8, 2010. 8:13 PM
sand the handles a bit to create a bit of grip and to "defuse" any drawing that your sanding over

mikeytylenol says: Jul 23, 2010. 3:53 PM
If you draw on your controller but not were your palms are, do you need clear coat? And it would be like a paint or what?
tysonhe0 says: Jul 7, 2010. 2:55 AM
I reckon put a Halo Spartan on it lol
codmod2killa says: Jun 27, 2010. 5:00 PM
ima test it on a regular x box remote 1st bcuz if i mess up its juss practice and at 1st there cheaper
cloggy01 says: Apr 11, 2010. 6:55 PM
Im not going to clear coat. When I play games on xbox my hand don't sweat so im hoping that wont be much of a problem
ginerationx2 in reply to cloggy01May 15, 2010. 6:54 PM
It will be a problem over time, the paint or markers or what you used will run not just from the sweat but from the friction and heat you hands produce while playing the game, i am working on some controllers myself just started and i get my airbrush and conpressor on tueday i will post pictures soon but clear coat is important use krylon fusion clear or duplicolor clear laquer both are fantastic and leave your controller glossy and protected
Demonic_Ronin says: Jan 27, 2009. 5:24 AM
Can this be done with the outer shell of the 360 itself?
ginerationx2 in reply to Demonic_RoninMay 15, 2010. 6:52 PM
yes it can be done to the case as well as cutting the case and adding plexi glass windows and LEDs ect
beauwalker23 (author) in reply to Demonic_RoninJan 27, 2009. 3:22 PM
well i dont see why not. Same concept.

I was already going to open up my white 360 contoller because my friend dropped soda on my controller, and the buttons are sticky, but now i can customize it too =D

oh and for opening it, i'd really suggest this: just got it today, and it's awsome http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001862BY8/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

I used my watercolor pencils. *shrugs* It doesn't really last in places where your hand is but you can change the design whenever you want. But I really like this. ^^
