Add a little extra personality to your table with custom painted silverware! Choose any color to coordinate with your decor or mix things up with a variety of colors. This is so simple anyone can do it.

Step 1: What You Will Need

Gather the following items:
1. Silverware of your choice (check your local thrift stores for some great options).
2. Painters tape (available at hardware stores).
3. Sandwich bag(s)
4. Spraypaint in the color of your choosing
5. Metal Primer spray paint

Step 2: Masking the Spoon

Start by cleaning your silverware, of course. Then take a small strip of painter's tape and wrap it around the neck of the silverware where you want your line to be. Be sure to carefully press it into each groove so that the paint doesn't leak under and give you bad lines.

Step 3: Bag and Prime

Wrap the sandwich bag over the eating end of your utensil and tape it down over the previously applied tape, being careful not to go past that previously applied tape edge (and thus preserving your perfect line). In a well-ventilated area, spray the metal primer lightly over the handle on all sides. Allow to dry and repeat if desired.

You will have greater success with spraypaint if you do multiple light coats rather than trying to do one or two heavy coats. Too much at once leads to dripping and pooling paint and a not-so-pretty finished product. Too much at once will also fill in those delicate grooves in your utensils.

Step 4: Apply Spray Paint

Now the fun part. Spray the color of your choice in a light even coat on all sides of the utensils. Allow to dry and repeat as many times as needed to create an even color coat. When it is all dried, remove the sandwich bag and tape, and you are done!
