Command Prompt Matrix NUMBERS

My last Instructable with the Matrix was only with the letters, but this one is a batch file that uses numbers, and looks more realistic. The real Matrix used Japanese letters and other symbols, but this one just uses numbers in different orders and sizes and it looks more realistic from my last Instructable.

It is pretty easy so lets get to it.

Step 2: The Code

Picture of The Code
Ok, to enter the code, you have to open the Notepad.

Enter this code:

@echo off
color 0a
:top
echo %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random%
goto top

  • Make sure the %random% is in one line across the screen, don't let it go to another line.

Step 3: Save it as .bat

Save the notepad file on to your Dekstop as a .bat file.

Save it as:

matrix.bat

You have to have the .bat at the end for this to work, because .bat is batch and batch is used with the command prompt.

Step 5: Making Screen Bigger

If you want to make it full screen, right click on the top blue bar, and click properties.

Choose layout, and change the height and width of the window size to 300. If you want to make the 300 default, right click on the top bar again, choose defaults, choose layout again, and make the height and width 300.

Keep in mind:

  • If you make the screen bigger, you will have to add more: %random% to the code.

So, just copy the code over and over again about 20 times.

Have Fun!

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl.

first you must go to CONTROL PANEL then select PROGRAM then select TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON OR OFF. after box loads files select the 2 TELNET folders so they are checked and then ok (default is off). click on start and type CMD then type the telnet command above exactly as it appears and you will be watching STARWARS IV ☺ enjoy.

Try this on a friends computer. Perferably one who does not know that much about his&her machine.
color 0a
@echo off

cls
echo overwriting memoryspace %random%%random%%random%

This put my CPU usage up to about 100% constantly!!
my windows 7 pc on 2ghz core 2 duo runs at under 30 %
LOL. What processor do you have? I have a dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2. The text goes by so fast you can't even see individual numbers.

it always throws it to 100%...i tink its b/c its a system process so it has uber high priorities...

ON MY COMPUTER CMD IS FULLSCREEN CAN I GET IT BACK TO NORMAL SIZE? URGENT!!!!!
alt+enter
Erm, it's called the windows key? Right between ctrl and alt on most keyboards...
How'd you type that?
What do you mean?
If the CMD was in fullscreen and you couldn't get out, how were you able to post that comment? Oh, wait, ctrl-alt-del. Just answered my own question.
alt tab right click on the matrix at the bottom and right click propates and change it back

everywhere5 years ago
i noticed that it said C:\windows\system32/cmd.exe so i edited the file a bit so it said @echo off title matrix color 0a :top echo %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% goto top

If the numbers are scrolling too fast, use "sleep x.x" to slow it down. I like sleep 0.2 for a nice speed.
Where do you stick this into the program at?
Here's a slightly refined version of below: #!/bin/bash while [ true ] do echo "$RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM $RANDOM " sleep 0.1 done
I don't get what your saying here. I tried copying the whole code you put and it didn't work where do I put it?
Put the above code in a text file, name that file random.sh (or your choice of filename) and make it executable using the command "chown a+x random.sh" from the command line. (assuming you're in the directory where you saved random.sh)

same outcome as dariel24.
dariel24 tadfad5 years ago
wont work. it says chown is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
WEAR DO YOU PUT IT?
hit alt+enter to make it full screen, to get out hit ctrl+alt+del
or hit alt+enter again to exit out of full screen
