Community Food Garden in SA Township

In April of this year we created an organic food garden in Capricorn township in Cape Town, South Africa. 

We partnered with Sozo, a non-profit organisation. It was the pilot of their new project, SoZo Eden, that seeks to build food security for the poor. Together with a team of international volunteers we transformed a beach-scape into a food jungle!

It was an amazing privilege to work on this project that increases nutrition, environmental beauty, and income (excess crops will be sold).

hi. I'm a PE boy living in spain and an avid gardener. I lived in CT for a few years and problem i always had was with the amount of water required to keep plants alive. the soil is basically old dune fields. how did you get around that? Wonderful project, keep them coming.

Thanks for the feedback! It was a richly rewarding project. Planning to do another in September.
You are right - the soil can be hydro-phobic; so sandy it repels water. This is very simply resolved by adding buckets of compost! The compost acts as a sponge :)
