well Raid (0,1,5,2) is not really a kind of backup media because if its connected to the pc all the time and if there are viruses lurking in your pc then it could infect the RAID HDD too. besides external HDD are cheaper and good for backups. just get yourself a rugged HDD
RAID is resilient, but not resilient enough to totally replace backups. The usual test is "if I submerged your computer in concrete, could you get your data back?".
A backup should ideally be in a different building, but should at the very least be outside your computer case for when the burglars make off with it, it catches fire or gets hit by lightning. My periodic photo/music backups are in a CD wallet under my bed- not great for anti-theft but won't be affected if my computer dies a death.

well actually you could get it back if you use an external HDD like a freecom toughdrive . cuz they are rugged HDD and gives you 100% reliablity. or else if you want the real backup machine get hold of an HP backup tape which can cost you more than 1200 bucks
