Convert DIP Packages to mock SMDs!

 by denniskupec
You can bend pins of a DIP packaged chip to get a mockup SMD! I havent used this method yet but i plan too in the next couple of weeks. If anyone can make an Eagle CAD object/part for this that would be great, contact me do i can post it on this instructable.

Step 1: What You Need

Heres a list of what you need:

1.)   DIP Chips [microcontrollers, etc]
2.)   Sturdy Solid Table or surface [glass or metal]
3.)   Small Round Object

4.)   STEADY HANDS AND PATIENCE!

Note: Practice on some dead chips first, i broke some pins off of one chip.

When I do this I do the reverse to save pcb space.
I first cut all the pins to be slightly shorter, then bend all the pins underneith the chip. The only chip I've really had to do this with was an old 74141

I had that idea but I think my idea is easier to solder

FYI: It's spelled "straight," not "strait." Otherwise, nice instructable. I'm sure to use this sometime.
