My first instructable, cheers!

Anyway, I was on Google looking for a free program that would convert my Youtube .flv files to a format that is more universal, like .wmv or .mov.

I searched countless forums and websites and then found a program called S.U.P.E.R., or Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.

It encodes (converts):

3GP to 3GP, 3GP to AVC, 3GP to AVI, 3GP to DivX, 3GP to FLV, 3GP to H264, 3GP to MP4, 3GP to MPG, 3GP to XviD, ASF to 3GP, ASF to AVC, ASF to DivX, ASF to FLV, ASF to H264, ASF to MP4, ASF to MPG, ASF to XviD, AVC to AVC, AVC to AVI, AVC to DivX, AVC to FLV, AVC to H264, AVC to MP4, AVC to MPG, AVC to XviD, AVI to 3GP, AVI to AVC, AVI to AVI, AVI to FLV, AVI to H264, AVI to MP4, AVI to MPG, AVI to XviD, DivX to 3GP, DivX to AVC, DivX to AVI, DivX to DivX, DivX to FLV, DivX to H264, DivX to MP4, DivX to MPG, DivX to XviD, DVB to AVI, DVB to DivX, DVB to DVD, DVB to FLV, DVB to XviD, FLV to 3GP, FLV to AVI, FLV to DivX, FLV to DVD, FLV to H264, FLV to MP4, FLV to MPG, FLV to VOB, FLV to XviD, H264 to 3GP, H264 to AVC, H264 to AVI, H264 to DivX, H264 to FLV, H264 to H264, H264 to MP4, H264 to MPG, H264 to WMV, HDTV to AVI, HDTV to DivX, HDTV to DVD, HDTV to FLV, HDTV to H264, HDTV to MP4, HDTV to MPG, HDTV to VOB, HDTV to XviD, MOV to 3GP, MOV to AVC, MOV to AVI, MOV to DivX, MOV to FLV, MOV to H264, MOV to MP4, MOV to MPG, MOV to XviD, MKV to 3GP, MKV to AVC, MKV to AVI, MKV to DivX, MKV to FLV, MKV to H264, MKV to MP4, MKV to MPG, MKV to XviD, MP4 to 3GP, MP4 to AVC, MP4 to AVI, MP4 to DivX, MP4 to FLV, MP4 to H264, MP4 to MP4, MP4 to MPG, MP4 to XviD, MPG to 3GP, MPG to AVC, MPG to AVI, MPG to DivX, MPG to FLV, MPG to H264, MPG to MP4, MPG to MPG, MPG to XviD, OGM to 3GP, OGM to AVC, OGM to AVI, OGM to DivX, OGM to FLV, OGM to H264, OGM to MP4, OGM to MPG, OGM to XviD, RM to 3GP, RM to AVI, RM to DivX, RM to FLV, RM to H264, RM to MP4, RM to MPG, RM to XviD, VOB to 3GP, VOB to AVI, VOB to DivX, VOB to FLV, VOB to H264, VOB to MP4, VOB to MPG, VOB to XviD, SWF to 3GP, SWF to AVC, SWF to AVI, SWF to DivX, SWF to FLV, SWF to MP4, SWF to MPG, SWF to XviD, WMV to 3GP, WMV to AVI, WMV to DivX, WMV to FLV, WMV to H264, WMV to MP4, WMV to MPG, WMV to XviD, XviD to 3GP, XviD to AVI, XviD to DivX, XviD to FLV, XviD to H264, XviD to MP4, XviD to MPG, XviD to XviD

Just about every multimedia file to any other multimedia file for free. So, when I saw this, I instinctively thought it was spyware, malware, or a virus. So, I scanned it with the Dr. Web anti-virus link checker, and it found nothing. Then, I scanned it with several online link scanners, and it still came up with nothing. Then I felt it was reasonably safe to download it. I'll go ahead and say that I scanned it with everything in my arsenal, Symantec AntiVirus, Spybot: Search and Destroy, ect. So, finally, I ran it, and it was the most insane, awesome freeware I have seen. ever.

So, now that we're all on the same page, lets go to step 2.

Step 1: Download

You can download S.U.P.E.R. here. Just click the link that says 'Download from authors tool site', and it will start downloading to your computer.

Update on Instructable: The LATEST build of S.U.P.E.R. (and the last, unfortunately) seems to have conversion difficulties. Please use the mirror link provided when downloading S.U.P.E.R. (as it is of an older version) or you may run into some problems.

Step 2: Setup

Once you've downloaded the file, open the setup (SUPERsetup.exe) and go through it.

Step 3: Convert

Open S.U.P.E.R. and drag your videos/music/graphics to the list under 'DROP A VALID MULTIMEDIA FILE HERE'. Then, select the output container (what kind of file you want it to be in the end). If you want, you can modify the optional other features under the 'VIDEO' and 'AUDIO' categories. When you are done, click the button at the bottom of the window that says 'Encode (Active Files)'.

Step 4: Done

You're finished! Feel free to comment on this Instructable =).

edit:
Also, if you want to capture objects from a website, like a Youtube video, I recommend UnPlug, a really cool Firefox extension that allows you to easily extract just about anything on a website. You can get it here.
<p>I highly recommend iDealshare VideoGo.</p><p>It can convert between various video and audio formats and can directly play or edit these files.</p><p>Windows version: <a href="http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter.html" rel="nofollow"> http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter.html</a></p><p>Mac version: <a href="http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter-mac.html" rel="nofollow"> http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter-mac.htm...</a></p>
<p>I used total <a href="http://www.etinysoft.com/total-video-converter-hd.html" rel="nofollow">video converter for mac</a> and this app is really powerful and easy to use! I can batch convert my video files to another formats!</p>
There's another app I know of called FormatFactory You can google that if you want to download it At the time of writing my comment the latest version is v1.85 Great instructable. Keep it up.
Would you happen to know if it is better or worse than super in the not give me a virus department
Thanks. Google returned several results for v.1.80 having spyware, so I'm scanning it right now with ESET NOD32 AV & VirusTotal (Symantec AV has been providing several false positives lately). Edit: Nope, nothing! Better yet, the software works well. Good link!
Read the comments at http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER?nextcomments=0&amp;orderby=#usercomments <br> <br>It seems this include a prodigious amount of adware and then phones home for additional malware. <br> <br>Be advised.
Wow, that is a very long list of <a href="http://www.findfiles.net/video/3gp" rel="nofollow">3gp video file</a> conversions. How long does the conversion actually take?
Yes, SUPER is a very common and often used by freeware users alike. I've been using it for years.
do you know of any that support midi files? anybody?
MIDI converters are a hard find. I'm not sure about this, but I think Adobe Bridge makes MIDI's.
sweetness, i have adobe ultimate (or something similar) so i have that program...ty
i don't seem to be able to convert them...any ideas...
This might be useful:<br/><a rel="nofollow" href="http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3307915/Mobile_Music_Polyphonic_Ringtones_composer_converter">http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3307915/Mobile_Music_Polyphonic_Ringtones_composer_converter</a><br/>=)<br/>
I got it figured out, I used winamp and a plugin to encode instead of play, thanks anyway......
Hey Leetzombie, Where does super store the new converted file to? Can you rename the file being converted? So far so good! I really hope this works! I will let you know! Thanks, ra
The converted file is stored in the OutPut folder of the Program Files for SUPER (by default, you can right click SUPER and change this path with one of the options), and you <em>can</em> copy it out of this folder and rename it.<br/>
Wov, It is really all-around. <br/>Recently, I found an all-in-one converter. Now I will share with you. It is Tipard DVD Ripper Pack. With this only one converter, you can both convert DVD and any video to any other video and audio formats.<br/>It also has strong editing functions.<br/>For more information, please come to: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.tipard.com/dvd-ripper-pack.html">http://www.tipard.com/dvd-ripper-pack.html</a><br/>
Ah-ha that's awesome. Thanks for the link!
does it take ages to start up for you, i have to wait for about a minute to see the window come up
how can i get windows movie maker videos on my ipod
go to <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4-UIUbyeHM">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4-UIUbyeHM</a><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4-UIUbyeHM">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4-UIUbyeHM</a><br/>
you know when you save something and it adds like ".txt" to the end or something, well what is that for converting files to and audio file? i want to create an audio overcast for a video.
It's the file extension. It tells the program you are using what kind of file it is. The most common audio files you will come across are MP4 (for iPods), MP3 (for MP3 players), WAV (Almost universal computer format), and MIDI (Used with cell phones).
ok, thanks.
<pre>do you put everything in DivX format?</pre>
No not really, I prefer to only put things in DivX if I have to. Not that its a bad file format or anything, its just that not all computers can play DivX.
it doest start downloading to my computer... i go through a bunch of pages and find where the website tells me to actually download the file and... "any of the 4 links" aren't there...
You can also download it from the mirror (its quicker and easier), although the authors tool site is recommended.
<pre>it does lead you through a long, pointless journey to finally get tothe link. it is at the bottom of the fourth page i think.</pre>
<pre>the actual link to download the file is at the bottom of this page:[http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html]although it re-routes you to another page it you go direct to that page.</pre>
good thing that it is good but it wants more ram and i don't have that ram (crappy pc)
i got S.U.P.E.R before i read this instructable. and it is such a great converter and its free! it is perfect for putting youtube videos on my ipod!
good looking bro
does it put a water mark on the output video?
Nope. =]<br/>
the first time i tried i clicked on one of the adds and downloaded a non trial convertor, im downloading the right one now so ill see how it works : )
There is a new version of S.U.P.E.R. out! Next time you open up S.U.P.E.R., you will get a message telling you that. I think it adds another language, so it's not really necessary. And by the way, another update: eRightSoft's 'official' website is www.erightsoft.net, not .com. But don't worry about getting it from the .com one, because all of the sites are identical, and it is supposed to prevent an impostor website from distributing S.U.P.E.R. under their name.
just out of interest did you get a program called meta4.exe come up when using this. Coz when I used it it came up and when typed into google it says it could be possible malware. I downloaded it from the erightsoft site as well If anyone knows exactly what it does some help would be appreciated. ( I think it is only present in the latest version!)
Yeh, I noticed that too. meta4.exe Is merely part of the codec suite you need to convert the files. Just to be sure, I scanned it after updating my Symantec Antivirus definition file, and decompiled the .exe, but there wasn't anything malicious inside of it. Also, if you would like to see for yourself, go ahead and delete the file and start up S.U.P.E.R.. It will recreate the codec so it can convert your files.
By the way, as you can see on the Related tab there is a second tutorial on S.U.P.E.R., but it uses a different download link than the recommended one, directly from the authors tools site. On the official site &amp; SUPERsetup.exe, it says:<br/><br/>IF THIS FILE HAS BEEN DOWNLOADED FROM ANY SITE OTHER THAN<br/><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html">http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html</a><br/><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html">http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html</a><br/><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.erightsoft.org/SUPER.html">http://www.erightsoft.org/SUPER.html</a><br/>IT MAY BE OUTDATED, MODIFIED, ALTERED or INFECTED<br/><br/>Truthfully, I just saw the second tutorial, and was about to unpublish mine when I saw the error =\<br/>
