Anyway, I was on Google looking for a free program that would convert my Youtube .flv files to a format that is more universal, like .wmv or .mov.

I searched countless forums and websites and then found a program called S.U.P.E.R., or Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.

Just about every multimedia file to any other multimedia file for free. So, when I saw this, I instinctively thought it was spyware, malware, or a virus. So, I scanned it with the Dr. Web anti-virus link checker, and it found nothing. Then, I scanned it with several online link scanners, and it still came up with nothing. Then I felt it was reasonably safe to download it. I'll go ahead and say that I scanned it with everything in my arsenal, Symantec AntiVirus, Spybot: Search and Destroy, ect. So, finally, I ran it, and it was the most insane, awesome freeware I have seen. ever.

So, now that we're all on the same page, lets go to step 2.

Step 1: Download

You can download S.U.P.E.R. here. Just click the link that says 'Download from authors tool site', and it will start downloading to your computer.

Update on Instructable: The LATEST build of S.U.P.E.R. (and the last, unfortunately) seems to have conversion difficulties. Please use the mirror link provided when downloading S.U.P.E.R. (as it is of an older version) or you may run into some problems.

There's another app I know of called FormatFactory You can google that if you want to download it At the time of writing my comment the latest version is v1.85 Great instructable. Keep it up.

Thanks. Google returned several results for v.1.80 having spyware, so I'm scanning it right now with ESET NOD32 AV & VirusTotal (Symantec AV has been providing several false positives lately). Edit: Nope, nothing! Better yet, the software works well. Good link!

MIDI converters are a hard find. I'm not sure about this, but I think Adobe Bridge makes MIDI's.

The converted file is stored in the OutPut folder of the Program Files for SUPER (by default, you can right click SUPER and change this path with one of the options), and you can copy it out of this folder and rename it.

you know when you save something and it adds like ".txt" to the end or something, well what is that for converting files to and audio file? i want to create an audio overcast for a video.

It's the file extension. It tells the program you are using what kind of file it is. The most common audio files you will come across are MP4 (for iPods), MP3 (for MP3 players), WAV (Almost universal computer format), and MIDI (Used with cell phones).

No not really, I prefer to only put things in DivX if I have to. Not that its a bad file format or anything, its just that not all computers can play DivX.

You can also download it from the mirror (its quicker and easier), although the authors tool site is recommended.

There is a new version of S.U.P.E.R. out! Next time you open up S.U.P.E.R., you will get a message telling you that. I think it adds another language, so it's not really necessary. And by the way, another update: eRightSoft's 'official' website is www.erightsoft.net, not .com. But don't worry about getting it from the .com one, because all of the sites are identical, and it is supposed to prevent an impostor website from distributing S.U.P.E.R. under their name.

just out of interest did you get a program called meta4.exe come up when using this. Coz when I used it it came up and when typed into google it says it could be possible malware. I downloaded it from the erightsoft site as well If anyone knows exactly what it does some help would be appreciated. ( I think it is only present in the latest version!)

Yeh, I noticed that too. meta4.exe Is merely part of the codec suite you need to convert the files. Just to be sure, I scanned it after updating my Symantec Antivirus definition file, and decompiled the .exe, but there wasn't anything malicious inside of it. Also, if you would like to see for yourself, go ahead and delete the file and start up S.U.P.E.R.. It will recreate the codec so it can convert your files.

By the way, as you can see on the Related tab there is a second tutorial on S.U.P.E.R., but it uses a different download link than the recommended one, directly from the authors tools site. On the official site & SUPERsetup.exe, it says:
