Cool Cedar Wood Jewelry Box

Step 3Step 3: Cutting out the drawers.

The cutting out of the drawers is the most critical part.
YOU MUST USE EXTREME CAUTION HERE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE GOOD WOODWORKING SKILLS ON A BAND SAW. I DO NOT CLAIM ANY RESPONSABILITY FOR INJURIES. THIS IS A DISCLAIMER AND FAIR WARNING! If you can find someone to do this step for you, than do so. Machinery has no conscience and will hurt you before you can blink. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND USE ALL SHOP SAFETY RULES.
To cut the drawers out you must sketch the onto the wood in a pattern that allows for three teardrop shapes to wrap above each other. See my box. I cut paper patterns to size before I got them perfect. Then trace them onto the wood..
Now I cut the first drawer. I outlined my cutting sequence in red and the drawer shapes in black. This makes it easier to follow with the band saw.
Cut into the side of the first draw edge and follow your red line around, being careful not to push or force your blade to much (one eighth in. blades work nice). If you push too hard the blade may snap off and scare the hell out of you. I am speaking from experience!!!! Follow your line around
and go slow, turning your wood gently but forward.
When you get to the end of your red line you will be coming out of the wood so go easy. You should have three teardrop shaped pieces of wood to drop out. If the wood trunk is slightly tapered the drawer piece may not come out forward. This can be fixed later by sanding till it comes forward.
