Step 2 Sand the cans

Sand the paint off the bottom couple of inches of both cans.

Make it as smooth as possible to ensure a tight fit and prevent leaks.

You'll need to empty one of the cans, so go ahead and have a drink while you work on the second one. The second one needs to be full and sealed, so don't drink it yet!

To sand mine I put my hand sander in a vice and used 220 grit paper worked like a charm

use a heavy wire brush... the kind you use for cleaning a grill... you can have it sanded completely in under 45 seconds with a little practice! =D

try an aluminum oxide paper its better for metal work

I'm having issues sanding my can; I took thirty minutes and still have about a third of the label visible.

I used 600 grit and sanded the can while running it under water, it cleaned the can it about 5 minutes, that is, with me using alot of pressure and rapid movement (back and forth) to get the sandpaper to really dig into the paint.

use a sanding bit on a dremel

maybe a coarser grain?
