Cordless Phone From Corded phone

In this Instructable I will show you how to make a cordless phone from a corded phone. Impossible! Ok, I'm not taking it apart, I'm just adding a speaker and microphone. It's not portable, you just don't have to carry cords around.

Tools:
None

Materials:
PC speaker
PC microphone
Windows XP & earlier (Windows Vista doesn't support this)
Laptop or Desktop PC
Corded Phone
FM Microphone
Radio
headphone extension cord (optional)

Step 1: Plug in Microphone

Plug in your microphone to your PC or laptop. I prefer a PC. Turn your microphone on (if it has a switch)

Go into the windows sound properties. Unmute the microphone and turn the volume up all the way. (turn on the 20dB boost in the advanced.)

Not what I thought but it still a nice project. You gave me an idea of taking a phone and do a few modifications so one can make like a mobile phone that you can carry with you whever one works in the yard or the garage.But it will involve like fm transmitters and receivers(or walkie talkies)that one can transmit the sound with.And if one would like to dial a number one will need to use remote control receiver at the phone itself which "pushes"the buttons to dial.And of course a transmitter.One can actually get a cellphone instead,but it would be nice to build and educational. Only thing is it might be ilegall so dont tell the telephone company.

I'm thinking of getting a hand held HAM radio and a phone patch and the HAM acts at a phone that you can dial and hang up and dial out again and even code it to keep people out. but you run in the same problem with this project someone can listen in (of course people can listen on cordless phones but not as likely as the HAM) since its on a 'share and wait your turn' basis.

why dont u just solder up the Mic and the speaker from the phone to two 3.5mm Jacks and plug them in your pc

Its still a corded phone its just a speaker-phone so I would rename this as a speaker-phone from a normal phone...nice effort though

false it's not a speaker phone the speaker goes into the microphone and goes to your somputer so you can taalk in your copmuter and it will go to the phone

$15 dollar cordless phone, no need to have wires stretching across your room. It's a neat concept but not to practical. And why won't this work with Vista?

When I made this instructable I was just learning how to use Windows Vista and couldn't find those properties.... I guess that was misleading.....

You can't enable the microphone to be always heard. At least I don't how to in vista. I just started using vista. I did this xp

This is a good instructable; if I may make a suggestion, though, it is this: try to take better pictures for your next instructable. The main thing I see here is lack of lighting. To fix that, just turn on lights in the room (don't use flash!). Also, when taking close-ups, use your camera's "macro mode" (the flower button). Hope this helps! 3/5 stars
