- fabric scissors
- a yellow t-shirt
- jean shorts (it looks better if you have the kind that are foldable at the bottom since that's the kind Misty wears)
- red converse shoes (or any red shoes)
- red suspenders
- red/orange hair or red/orange wig longer in length
- wig cap
- blue or purple hairband
You don't have to have these items, but it's a nice touch and can really make your cosplay look even better.
- blue colored contacts
- a pokéball
I recommend going to the thrift store for the clothing items you don't already have lying around, it'll make your costume cost even less.
To first start your costume, you want to find a yellow shirt. A t-shirt works best, but I had an old yellow v-neck t-shirt lying around that I used and it looks just fine. You then want to put the shirt on and mark where you want to cut it with a small line. Using a picture of Misty for reference helps for this part to insure that you get the correct length. After you mark the shirt, take it off, lay it on a flat surface, extend the small line you made earlier with a pencil and ruler and then cut the line you made with a pair of fabric scissors. Take the bottom part of the shirt that you cut off and set it aside. You'll be needing this later.
For the jean shorts and red suspenders I recommend shopping online or going to a thrift store if you don't already own them.
The best way to make Misty's shoes is to buy a pair of red converse shoes (vans or any other red shoes work too, but converse is the most accurate), take the extra yellow shirt fabric and cut out the pattern that's on Misty's shoes out of it. I did this by using a picture of Misty as a reference, folding the bottom of the shirt in half (so you have 4 layers), drawing the pattern on the fabric with pencil and then cutting it out. You then can glue this pattern on the shoes. If you want to wear the red shoes for everyday wear without the yellow fabric, I suggest gluing them on with a washable glue. The fabric will still stick enough, but will come off easily if you pull them off. You can even save the pieces of yellow fabric if you cosplay Misty in the future. If you want the shoes for this costume only then just use a fabric glue or super glue.
Making the wig for Misty is simple as long as you have the right wig. You don't need to go buy a really expensive wig since Misty's hair is in a side ponytail, but you don't want a wig that's too poor in quality since the red hair is what will make this cosplay recognizable as Misty. Also, the wig should be longer in length since you'll be cutting it after you put it into a side ponytail. To make your wig look like Misty's hair, put on your wig cap, fit the wig onto your head and then pull the hair on the wig into a side ponytail. Tie the ponytail with a hairband and then cut the ponytail to desired length. It's very important to use a picture of Misty as a reference for this step so you get the right hair length. You may also want to style parts of the wig to looks more like Misty's hair. After your done cutting, glue the hairband into place. This will keep it from falling out and ruining your costume.
After your done with the costume, put in your blue contacts and grab your pokéball and your ready to go. Enjoy!
