I made one of those with my Nanna 30 years ago and we used a phone book as it is so thick and you get a really nice thick tree. Then a slurry of plaster of paris was poured over it, painted and glittered.

I remember them also, but we made them with the readers digest. One could make a *forest* of them with different sized magazines. Make really FULL trees using 2 magazines per tree.
