Introduction: Cream Cheese French Toast Bake

Your thinking tomorrow is sunday wouldn't it be nice to have French toast.  But egg dip, fry, flip. repeat thats just to much work for morning before coffee.  Couldn't i just toss it in the oven and be done with it.  But what is french toast but bread pudding the original single serving pudding.  And what would happen if you put it on a stick?  That would be a different ibble French Toast toast on a stick.   Well needing an ibble I thought I could use this one.

The story goes like this.  A farmer in up state New York wanted to make Neufchatel Cheese for those city people who liked it on their bagels.  Well he used cream instead of milk and came up with a firmer heavy cheese.  So Cream Cheese became the American fat cousin to the French cheese.  Then came the labeling laws and anything with 9.9g of fat could be labeled Cream Cheese and any cheese with 6.6 could be called Neufchatel Cheese.  You can used either (were not making cookies)

Step 1: Ingredients

1/2 cup All-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup milk or cream little of both
1 Tlbs sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
6 eggs
Loaf of French Bread cut into chunks (Or other day old bread any kind)
4 oz package of cream cheese or Neufchatel Cheese
1 cup fresh or frozen(thawed) blueberries (or some other fruit black berries, raspberries, Snozberries, apple chunks, rhubarb, ect)

powdered sugar
Syrup (maple, flavored, Honey, sticky stuff)

Cream Cheese french toast bake

1/2 cup All-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup milk or cream little of both
1 Tlbs sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
6 eggs
Loaf of French Bread cut into chunks (Or other day old bread any kind)

1 cup fresh or frozen(thawed) blueberries (or some other fruit black berries, raspberries, Snozberries, apple chunks, rhubarb, ect)
1/2 cup coarsely chopped Walnuts nuts

1.  Cut Bread into 1 inch cubes the original recipe called for french bread but as luck would have it none was on the discount rack.  old bread is better you want it stale

2.  Put cut bread into a pan and place in warm oven until stale (this whole recipe will come out soggy if you forget this step)

3.  Get mean beat those eggs Blender works well for this add milk, flour, sugar, vanilla and salt

4. Mix egg mixture and bread.  You could toss them in a bowl or just poor the egg mixture over the bread in a 9x11 baking pan.

5.  Toss on blueberries.  Sprinkle on the nuts.  Cut or scoop cream cheese blobs on.

6.  Cover and refrigerate  1 hour or overnight.

7.  Wake up one hour early heat oven to 400o F.  Uncover and bake 20 to 25 min or until golden brown and egg is set

8.  Serve with powered Sugar and Syrup.

Step 3: Cut

1.  Cut Bread into 1 inch cubes the original recipe called for french bread but as luck would have it none was on the discount rack.  Old bread is better, it needs to be stale so why by fresh if you can get it half price and nearly stale all ready.

Step 4: Stale the Bread

2.  Put cut bread into a pan and place in warm oven until stale (this whole recipe will come out soggy if you forget this step)

The artisan darker bread took a longer time to get stale  Better bread makes better tasting french toast.  French or Italian bread does absorb the egg mixture better and makes a softer pudding.

Step 5: Beat ItSa

3.  Get mean beat those eggs Blender works well for this add milk, flour, sugar, vanilla and salt

Step 6: Mix

4. Mix egg mixture and bread.  You could toss them in a bowl or just poor the egg mixture over the bread in a 9x11 baking pan.

I usually mix this in the dish and forget to spray the pan first.  With the artisan bread it would have been better to do it in a bowl and given it a stir every so often.  Then assembled it before baking.

Step 7: Toss On

5.  Toss on blueberries.  Sprinkle on the nuts.  Cut or scoop cream cheese blobs on.

Step 8: Go to Bed

6.  Cover and refrigerate  1 hour or overnight.

Now you could get up two hours early and make breakfast or do this the hight before and get up 30 minutes early and bake it.

Step 9: Bake

7.  Wake up one hour early heat oven to 400o F.  Uncover and bake 20 to 25 min or until golden brown and egg is set.  if the bread wasn't stale enough the pudding wont set up.

Step 10: Eat

8.  Serve with powered Sugar and Syrup.

Step 11: The Great Honey Bear

The great Honey Bear looked at the French Toast and then at me and said "Looks delicious"

Then i Looked at the French Toast and at the Great Honey Bear and said "It does look delicious"

And then the Great Honey Bear Said "We are talking about the same thing? Ar'n't we?"
