Introduction: Create a Cylon Domo

How to combine a cute monster with a awsome robot!!!
*UPDATE* 4-24-09 Video and action shots Added see final step

Step 1: Supplies

To create the Cylon Domo you will need the following things:
A Thinkgeek Cylon snowman
A 6" Domo plushie
Superglue
Screwdriver
Knife
Thread(preferably brown, to make it blend in)
Needle, Duh!!!
Dremel with drill bit
Optional:
Soldering iron
Solder
USB cable
To do this you will need basic sewing skills with basic soldering skills, (this is optional). The total price for this project, provided you have the tools in the list, is about twenty dollars.

Step 2: Disassembly of Cylon Part 1

First we need to take apart the Cylon.
To do this, we need to take off his wonderful hat. This will reveal a rubber o-ring type piece that will be holding the upper half of the robot together, as seen in picture two. Remove this by prying it off with a knife.
Flip him over and this will reveal a small screw inlaid in the robot, remove this with your screwdriver. Lastly, there will be another piece of rubber at the base as seen in the second picture. Remove this with a knife and the snowman should come right open as seen in picture three. All the parts that have come off should be in picture four. Also remove the lens that is the eye of the Cylon. What is left are two little screws holding the switches in place.

Step 3: Disassembly of a Cylon Part 2

This is a very tricky part and should not be rushed as I did. There is a knot that is tied so that the cable can't be pulled out( see picture two), undo this knot also. If you notice the first picture, the usb header is too big for the hole. So take your dremel and make your way to the hole in which the USB cable is trapped. This is when the extra USB cable comes in handy. Cut it open, and using your knife strip the ends off the black and the red wires. Then solder these to the location where the two other power cables were soldered. If your polarity is off, solder the wire the other way around. Now carefully take the speaker, the main board, the switches, and the USB cable out of the snowman's shell.

Step 4: Disassembly of a Domo

Now it is time to cut open the Domo. Take your knife and cut a slit two inches from the top of the plushie, to the middle of the plushie, as seen in picture two. Then remove all of the stuffing taking care to keep all of it together. Then cut a small slit in the bottom of the plushie, test the size with your USB cable. If it is too big don't worry you will be able to sew it up at the end. If it is too small, enlarge it by pulling on both ends of the hole, or use your knife. Flip the Domo over and cut a slit in between the eyes. Make sure the slit is big enough for the main boards led array see the next steps main picture.

Step 5: Reassembly of a Cylon Domo

Now we can start the final assembly. Take the lens from the eye of the cylon, and dose a large amount of superglue onto the back of the lens. Also coat the contacts of the boards with the rest of your superglue. I did not do this and had to resolder the wires to the board.
Insert the main board of the cylon into the slit between the eyes of the domo. Start re-stuffing the domo making sure the eye is still in the slit. You can do this by getting someone else to re-stuff it while you hold the board in place. Mount the switches on the outside by sewing through the two screw holes like in the second picture. I have not found a way to mount the speaker on the outside of the domo, so I cut mine off. If you find a way to do so please comment. All that is left is to sew the main hole back together, thread the USB header into the hole and sew the USB hole shut.

Step 6: Finished

I have to apologise, I did not cover my connections with superglue and my board shorted out. So I have no action shots. I will get a new board as soon as possible. If you liked this Insructable please rate it well. If you want to give yours a zombie look, like mine, uou can not sew the main hole shut completely. I did this and love it completely!!! See picture three. Thanks for reading!!!!!
