Introduction: Creating a Bear Totem

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

Let's get started with the body!

Instructions

  1. Place an Egg on the workplane. This will be the body of the bear.
  2. Change the color to brown. Scale the body down to about 22mm.
  3. Place a sphere on the workplane. This will be the head of the bear.
  4. Scale the head down so it's height is about 16mm and its depth is 15mm.
  5. Align the head and body so they share the same center points. Move the head up to the top of the body.
  6. Continue to next step.

Step 1: Creating the Nose

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

The next thing to make will be the nose.

Instructions

  1. Place a paraboloid and cube on the work plane.
  2. Turn the cube into a hole
  3. Move the cube over the top of the paraboloid so the tip is inside.
  4. Group the cube and paraboloid together.
  5. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool. Move the cursor (blue box with a white cone) over the top of the paraboloid and left click. Place a half sphere on the workplane above the paraboloid.
  6. Scale the half sphere down so it's base is similar to the top of the paraboloid. Hold SHIFT to scale in all directions and ALT to scale in towards the center.
  7. Scale the height down to about 2mm
  8. Change the colors as the image shows and group them together.
  9. Scale the height, width, and length of the group as shown in the image.
  10. Move the nose in place.
  11. Continue to next step.

  4. Holding ALT, make a copy of the eye, and move it to the other side.
  5. To start the ears, place a half sphere and torus on the workplane.
  6. Select both objects and align them so they share the same center on the X and Y axis.
  7. Move the half sphere up so it rests on top of the torus.
  8. Scale down the half sphere's height to about 4mm.
  9. Scale down the half sphere's height to about 4mm.
  10. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool. Select the inside of the ear.
  11. Place a cylinder inside the ear.
  12. Scale down the height so it is inside the ear. Change its color to a lighter brown.
  13. Move the ear on top of the head.
  14. Hold ALT and move a copy to the other side.
  15. Continue to next step.

Step 3: Creating the Arms

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

In previous steps you were shown how to use workplane tool. In the next steps, you will be shown the end result.

Can you figure out how the workplane tool was used?

Instructions

  1. In previous steps you were shown how to use workplane tool. In the next steps, you will be shown the end result. Can you figure out how the workplane tool was used?
  2. Group the arm objects together and scale the group on all axises as shown in the image.
  3. Place a paraboloid.
  4. Equally scale it down to 2mm. Rotate the paraboloid so that it points down, or 180 degrees. This will be a claw nail.
  5. Hold ALT and copy and move the claw nail 3 times to fill.
  6. Select all of the nails and rotate them 25 degrees as shown. Color them black and add them to the arm group.
  7. Rotate the arm about 25 degrees toward the body. Move the arm in place.
  8. Hold ALT to copy while moving the arm to the other side. Rotate the arm 180 degrees so that it points in the opposite direction.

Step 4: Create the Decorations

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

In previous steps you were shown how to use workplane tool. In the next steps, you will be shown the end result.

Can you figure out how the workplane tool was used?

Instructions

  1. Place a pyramid on the workplane and scale it as shown in the image.
  2. Make a copy of the pyramid by holding ALT, and rotate the pyramid 45 degrees. Repeat until you have made 3 copies. When finished, it should look like the image.
  3. Place a sphere.
  4. Center the objects together using align.
  5. Position the camera so that the bottom of the objects can be seen. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool and select the bottom of a pyramid.
