Introduction: Creating a Team Environment

Step 1: Establish the Team

Have team decide together on a shared definition of what it means to be a "cohesive group." This definition should:

  • Set forth a team identifier (BG4+1)
  • Communication standards
  • Commitment requirements
  • Shared responsibility
  • Pride for the group's work
  • Progress towards meeting objectives.

Step 2: Understand Your Team

Get to know the individuals on your team:

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of each member
  • Explore cultural background and viewpoints
  • Identify communication and learning style
  • Create rapport through sharing of interests, motivations and goals

Step 3: CHRIS

Communication:

  • Thinks Strategically
  • Drives for results
  • Always honesty and upfront
  • Communicates through collaboration
  • Open minded and willing to work with others
  • Likes to lead but can follow
  • Can take action
  • Maintains focus while removing obstacles
  • Sometimes can over think a problem

Learning:

  • More likely to learn what i see then hear
  • More analytical then creative

Motivation:

  • Motivated by family
  • Desire to succeed both financially and professionally

Step 4: KIM

Motivation:

  • Being a late bloomer is my biggest motivation
  • My motivation is to live a good life
  • I love to travel I love meeting people who are positive
  • I love to learn

Learning style Culture/Environment:

  • I’m naturally fond of people who are quite different from me
  • I have learned from my environment.
  • I have a very easy time welcoming many different kinds of individuals into my circle
  • Also it been my motto to stay true to myself. I walk by the Shakespeare statute a lot and I’m reminded “to thine own self be true”
  • I love intelligent people and this is why I love my team
  • I come from very humble begging
  • I learn best by doing the task I do not like to read directions
  • I love the sun

Interest:

  • I like all kinds of music but, R&B makes sing very loud to every song
  • I love school and I have had for the most part a wonderful experience here at Villanova
  • I fit in even thou I’m could be older than the teacher (LOL)
  • I love to woo people also I strategize before doing things

Communication:

  • Instinctively I find the right words to express what I’m thinking
  • I’m by nature a innovative inventive , original and very resourceful
  • I have the ability to vividly express my thoughts and feeling

Step 5: RYAN

Communication:

  • Gives full explanations, explaining details of points made to convey meaning
  • Let’s teammates/co-workers know when I do not understand something
  • Open minded to others thoughts and ideas (at least more than I used to be)
  • Can be overly direct at times

Learning:

  • Auditory learner; prefer verbal communication with co-workers/teammates
  • More likely to remember what I have heard as opposed to what has been shown
  • Tend to re-word others explanations in order to check my understanding

Motivation:

  • Personal growth, drive to be better/Pride
  • Down time; the promise of an extra hour at the end of the day to read is enough to press on
  • Security; financial and emotional security drives daily goals
  • Competition; drive to be better than the next person, team or co-worker

  • Culture that fostered any direct so long as it was sought eagerly

Step 8: Decide How You Will Communicate As a Team

Decide collectively how the team will communicate as a group for the project

  • Decide how information will be shared within the group
  • Determine where information and updates will be stored
  • Define consensus and how voting is conducted
  • Setting Clear Objectives

Step 9: Meetings

Determine how planning and meetings will be conducted for the group including:

  • Who will lead meetings
  • How the time will be used
  • Where they will be held and who should attend
  • Outline roles and responsibilities
  • Defining project objective and goals
