Introduction: Creating an F3K RC Airplane

In this instructable you will learn how to assemble a DLG airplane from Modellflug Thiele, to be more specific the model Falke.

Step 1: Preparing Individual Pieces

After you have received and unpacked your airplane the first step is to remove ll of the foil from the areas that have to be glued together, this can also bee done at the individual step is liked.

Step 2: Connecting Electronic Components

The next step is to connect all of your electronic components in the right way, this is showed in the first picture, the following detail the components in use, the second one shows how to connect up the components to the receiver. The individual components can be taken apart afterwards for easier assembly.

Step 3: Inserting Servos

In this step you should insert your servos into the airplanes rump, place them like shown in the picture beneath and screw them in.

Step 4: Preparing Servo Rudders for Placement on Servos

After you have inserted the servos you will have to prepare the servo rudders since not all parts of them are necessary, clip them of with plyers as is shown in the pictures.

Step 5: Insert Torsion Screws Into the Flaps

The torsion screws of the set have to be inserted into the movable bits between the balsa planes in order for them to bend on their own into one direction.

Step 6: Adding the Pin to the Left Wing

The pin is the most important part of the plane and has to be fitted into the carbon fibre reinforced ear of the left hand side of the wing. The pin has to be inserted at an angle of approximately 3 degrees of the parallel line of the body slanting towards the front of the airplane. This can be done by drilling holes in the appropriate places and then connecting them with files. The pin is then placed in the created hole and fixed into position with a two component epoxy glue.

Step 7: Fixing the Rudders to the Body

The back rudders can now be fastened to the body, this is quite straight forward as is displayed in the picture accompaniying this step. The side rudder is simply slid in between the designated area and then permanently glued to place with a glue of your choice. Using little helps with the weight distribution.

The hight rudder is placed on two pins that are stuck into the body. They are different in length and have to be placed so that they are equally long whilst sticking out. then they also have to be glued into place as well as the rudder on top of them.

Step 8: Fixing the Steering Support

In this step you have to fix the support for the steering wires to the body, they will support the wires that will later on steer the airplane. one has to be placed approximately at the start of the wings and the second one fairly close to the back end.

Step 9: Adding the Rudder Horns

In this step you should add the rudder horns onto the movable parts of the rudders in the small slits which are designed to hold these, they are then glued into place.

Step 10: Fitting Steering Wire

In order to be able to control the airplane you have to connect the steering wire to the rudder horns of the servo as well as to the counterpart at the rudder as seen in the pictures. It is important that the wing is straight whilst the servo is in a neutral position this can be achieved by laying the rudder on its back and using weights to secure it.

Step 11: Adding Wings

After all of the other steps are executed it is time to add the wings to the airplane, first you add the screws to the exact holes which are then pushed through the airplane's body and screwed tight. The screws are then shortened by cliping the end of. After that your airplane is ready to fly!
