Let's get started with the body!

Instructions

  1. Place an Egg on the work plane. This will be the body of the owl.
  2. Rotate the body so the top is pointing towards the ground, or 180 degrees.
  3. Change the color to brown. Scale the height, width, and length of the body as shown in the image.
  4. Place a sphere on the workplane. This will be the head of the owl.
  5. Change the color to match the body and scale the height, width, and length to match what is shown in the image.
  6. Center the head and body using align.
  7. Place a half sphere on the workplane. This will be the one of the ears.
  8. Scale the height, width, and length as shown in the image.
  9. Position the ear on the head as shown in the image using move and rotate.
  10. Holding ALT, move the ear to the opposite side of the body. Choose Edit>Mirror to flip it as shown in the image.
  11. Continue to next step.

Step 1: Adding the Eyes and Beak

On to the eyes and beak.







Instructions

  1. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool. Imagine a straight line coming down from the inside of the ear on your right. Place the white cone of on that line as shown in the image.
  2. Place a half sphere and scale the height, width, and length as shown in the image. Change the color to gold yellow. This will be the eye.
  3. Choose Edit>Duplicate to make a copy of the eye. Change the color of the copy to black. Scale it down so that it looks like the image.
  4. Group the two objects that make the eye together. Hold ALT and move the eye to the left, making a copy.
  5. Press "W" to switch to the workplane tool and choose a point inbetween the eyes. Place a pyramid and scale it down so it looks the image. This will be the beak. Rotate the beak so that it points down.
  6. Switch to the workplane tool and click on the eye on the right. Place a torus so the eye is seen through the center. This will be the eye lid.
  7. Rotate the eye lid -23 degrees. The top of the torus should be farther away from the owl.
  8. Move the eye lid towards the owl until only the top half can be seen.
  9. Move the eye lid towards the owl until only the top half can be seen.
  10. Continue to next step.

Step 2: Creating the Wings and Adding Face Paint

Let's add some wings and some face paint.

Instructions

  1. Place an Egg. This will be a wing.
  2. Scale the wing so it is flat and half the length of the body.
  3. Make a duplicate of the wing by choosing Edit>Duplicate. Mirror the wing and move it to the other side.
  4. Press "W" to switch to the workplane. Choose a point close to the one shown in the image.
  5. Place a pyramid and scale it down so it is a little smaller than the eye.
  6. Rotate the pyramid so it is pointing down and move it toward the owl until only a little is showing.
  7. Switch to the workplane tool and click on the pyramid. Select the pyramid and press CTRL+C to copy it.
  8. Look at the image and see where the other two pyramids are. Switch to the workplane tool and move your cursor to one. Press CTRL+V to paste a new pyramid in that location.
  9. You have finished making an owl totem!
