I come from a place where earthen pots are used for cooking- esp fish curry. They are about three to four inches deep.one of mine chipped .Now it is a terrarium. Gave the pot a crackle finish with yellow cracks showing through coffee brown.I love reusing and repurposing .Old faded plastic pots have got a new look with decoupage with crepe paper, waterproofed with a coat of mod podge. Some have hand painted designs; some dried flower collage and some were decorated using leaf design stamps. Two litre bottles hang upside down in colorful cotton bags stiched to fit.My garden is mainly foliage. The color comes from the containers!

You have a lot of great ideas here. Here is another great Idea for you. I have 5 cats so I go through a lot of litter I use the ones in the plastic bins so I started having a collection of them. One day I am like i need bigger planters but they are so expensive as i am looking at my pile of empty cat litter pails. Got out my drill and drilled some holes in the bottom put dirt in it and plant .Problem fixed saved money and recycled. :) You could decorate these pails to one desires.
