I'm not an expert in crocheting or knitting, so I was looking for something easy. I saw this crochet scarf on a facebook page and couldn't wait to make one. For those who don't know much about crocheting, a beginner like me will find this tutorial very easy. It only includes basic crochet stitches.
The color combination of my scarf isn't quite good, I used these colors to make the tutorial easy to understand.

Step 1: Materials Needed

To make this scarf you'll need:

1) Yarns (of different colors),
2) Crochet hook (3.5 or 4.5),
3) Scissor,
4) Piece of cardboard or anything hard with (at east) 1 inch width and 4 inches length (You can increase the width and length if you want to).

Step 2: Chain Stitch

Chain Stitch (2nd picture):
1. Make a slip knot,
2. Insert your hook into the slip knot,
3. Wrap the yarn over the hook,
4. Draw the yarn through the slip knot.
There, you've done a chain stitch, now keep repeating the steps.

Chain stitch as many chains as you want till it reaches the required length of the scarf,
I didn't count the chains, just kept doing chain stitches till it reached the required length of the scarf (mine is 42 inches).
Adding tassels at both ends can also increase the length of the scarf.

Step 3: Making Loops (Laces)

You'll need a piece of cardboard or anything that's hard enough or doesn't bend easily. I used a piece of cardboard (3cm X 10cm).

1st picture: When you're done making the chains use the hook to pull out the last chain stitch (loop) about an inch, remove the hook from the loop and get it through the cardboard piece. Pull the loose end of the yarn to tighten the loop with the cardboard piece.

2nd picture: Insert the hook into the next chain stitch, wrap the yarn over the hook and yarn through the chain.
Now you have a loop on the hook, pull it out carefully, remove it from the hook and get it through the cardboard piece,

3rd picture: Once the cardboard piece is filled with loops carefully get them out of the cardboard piece.

Keep making loops until you reach the end of the chain. You'll need to make 2 laces, as you can see I've made an orange and a blue one.

Step 4: Attaching the Laces

Now that you have both laces ready it's time to attach them, this is the fun part!

You have to make sure that the laces are of equal length, the number of chains won't vary much if the lengths are equal.
If the chains are not equal in number you can adjust them easily.

1st picture: Place both laces with their loops facing towards each other,
Insert hook into 4 loops (1st loops) of any one lace,
Again, insert the hook into 4 loops (2nd loops) of the other lace and draw them through the first 4 loops (see picture-),

2nd picture: Now, insert the hook into the 2nd loops as shown in the picture and again insert it through the next 4 loops of the other lace and draw them through the 2nd loops,
This will create a braided pattern.

Keep doing the same until you reach the end. At the end use yarn and hook to make a slip stitch.

Step 5: Increasing Width

Now that you've attached both laces together it's time to increase the width of the scarf.

You'll need the cardboard piece again,
Insert the hook into the first or last chain of any one of the completed laces,
Take a new yarn, wrap it over the hook and draw through the chain,
Now, you'll have a loop in your hook,
Pull the loop out, remove it from the hook and get it through the cardboard piece like we've done for the previous ones.

Make another lace like the orange and blue one and attach it with the 3rd row of loops (see 4th picture of this step).
I attached 10 laces.

Step 6: Adding Tassels

Adding tassels are easy.

Cut 5-6 pieces of yarn (double the length you want for the tassels),
Hold all the yarn strands together, fold them into half and you'll have a loop at one end,
Use the hook to draw the loop through the stitch that you’re attaching the tassel to,
Again use the hook to draw the loose ends of the yarn through the loop and pull them to create a tight knot.

There! scarf is ready! wasn't that easy and fun? I'm going to make another one using black, white and grey.
As I've said before that I'm not good in crocheting and not familiar with its terms so I might have made some mistakes, so please correct me by commenting, that would be very helpful :)
