Meatwad get the money, see? Meatwad get the honeys, G. Riding in my car, living like a star, ice on my fingers and my toes and I'm a Taurus!
Okay, so it only took me almost a year, but I finally made a friend for Master Shake! Meatwad is made of popcorn stitches to give him that nice bumpy meat effect. I used Red Heart Plush yarn, which is chenille-like and really hides the stitches, which I like. His smile is a crocheted chain sewed into position and his eyes and tooth are felt, since I thought embroidery would be really difficult on him. His white spots (My husband and I were just debating this--are they onions or are they flecks of fat? We figure he's raw, so it could be either) are just a couple of stitches embroidered in off-white yarn here and there and he's stuffed with regular ol' poly-fil.
I used Red Heart plush for the body and Vanna's Choice for the off-white and black (spots and chain for mouth). I used a G (4.00 mm) hook. Gauge really isn't important...just try not to let too much stuffing show :) Go here to learn the popcorn stitch if you don't know it already. My popcorn stitches were all composed of 5 dc each. For the beginning of each round, ch 3, 4 dc in first stitch and join to form the first popcorn stitch of each round.
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Round 2.: Ch 3, 4 dc in first sc. Join to form popcorn stitch (pc). One normal 5-dc pc in each sc. Join with sl st in first pc. (6 pc)
Round 3: 2 pc in each pc around. Join with sl st in first pc. (12 pc)
Round 4: *2 pc in first pc, 1 pc in next pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc. (18 pc)
Round 5: *2 pc in first pc, 1 pc in next 2 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc. (24 pc)
Round 6: *2 pc in first pc, 1 pc in next 3 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc. (30 pc)
Round 7: *2 pc in first pc, 1 pc in next 4 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc. (36 pc)
Round 8: Pc in each pc around. Join with sl st in first pc. (36 pc)
Round 9: *Sk first pc. 1 pc in space after first pc. Sk 1 pc, pc in next 4 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc. (30 pc)
Round 10: *Sk first pc. 1 pc in space after first pc. Sk 1 pc, pc in next 3 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc (24 pc)
Round 11: *Sk first pc. 1 pc in space after first pc. Sk 1 pc, pc in next 2 pc* repeat from * around. Join with sl st in first pc (18 pc)
At this juncture, put a face on your Meatwad, and fill him full of delicious poly-fil.
Round 12: *Sk first pc. 1 pc in space after first pc. Sk 1 pc, pc in next pc* repeat from * around. Join with s st in first pc (12 pc)
Round 13: Ps in the space between each ps (6 pc). End off, leaving a long enough length to weave back through the last round. Pull tight. At this point, you may want to also weave back through the last few rounds and pull them tight.
Using an off-white yarn, embroider pairs of large stitches at random intervals all over Meatwad to represent whatever his white spots are supposed to represent.
Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of your very own Meatwad. I'd recommend keeping him out of the microwave and away from static electricity-ridden balloon animals.
