Step 1: Materials

I've done everything in an office setting. (yes this is a child of boredom)
Tape (I used scotch tape and white foam tape if you have electrical tape use it!)
Altoids Tin
Logitech LX7 mouse (could use another kind if you are good at adapting)
Small piece of foam board
Small piece of cardboard
Sharpies
Box cutter
Craft knife
AAA batteries (This normally uses AA but for space concerns AAA will fit better)

I saw your instructable when checking that mine was okay...does yours work?
SASQUATCH101 says: May 29, 2009. 11:24 PM
rule # 1. Duck tape is better for any job. rule # 2. Everything looks better in an altoids can. rule # 3. When in doubt, hot glue. rule # 4. A LED will always make your instructable better. i'm not sure what the others are......
Cubie2 in reply to SASQUATCH101Dec 14, 2009. 8:15 PM
rule # 5 never use painters tape.
rule # 6 Always keep a lighter handy... In case your glue gun or soldering iron breaks.
rule # 7 The worse it looks the better it works!

Might I ask what the purpose of this mod is????????????

Dude! Number 1 rule of Insructables! Everything is better in an altoids case!
steed1172 in reply to data23Feb 20, 2009. 9:46 AM
nonono.. that's rule number TWO... rule number one is every thing is better with duct tape (or duck tape depending on what kind you have)
REA in reply to steed1172Mar 16, 2009. 5:25 PM
then whats number three?
jeoncs (author) in reply to REAMar 16, 2009. 6:33 PM
hrm I would say #3: when in doubt use hot glue
REA in reply to jeoncsMar 17, 2009. 1:55 PM
someone needs to make a list of all of them.

Forgive me for answering your question with a question. Why not?
lemonie says: Feb 11, 2009. 9:28 AM
Cool. But I was hoping that having done everything in an office setting, this might be stuffed with Blu-Tac... Being inside a metal box might block the radio communication between the mouse and USB dongle (wrapping mine in thin foil just now did make the response poorer). Since you don't say it: does this mouse actually work? L
jeoncs (author) in reply to lemonieFeb 11, 2009. 10:25 AM
Yea I never tried more than a few feet. I didn't really have any problem using it. At the moment I am working on a better one in a non office setting. Big lots sells a mini wireless mouse for 15$ that I am getting friday to give it a go.

Top! L

Pretty cool but with a dremel you could have mad the cuts a little more precise. Good work though
red-king in reply to ThornburgFeb 7, 2009. 8:00 PM
i kinda like the way the cuts are.... it looks kind of beaten up... lol

huh?

If you had a wireless mouse and were okay without having a scroll wheel (or maybe just putting it on the side) it would be sweet. It would just look like any other altoids box.
jeoncs (author) in reply to cprocjrJan 31, 2009. 6:15 AM
Yea I wish I had done some of that I did without the wheel on my wired altoids mouse and it looks decent. I did this in a basic office setting though so remounting the wheel would take some crazy way to solder it.
Da_Fudge says: Jan 30, 2009. 5:19 PM
That's pretty sweet!!!!!
Romado12187 says: Jan 30, 2009. 11:23 AM
a nibbler would have made the cuts much more clean looking
jeoncs (author) in reply to Romado12187Jan 30, 2009. 12:47 PM
I did this at work in an office so I had a box cutter and a craft knife
hulma says: Jan 30, 2009. 10:33 AM
is there a specific reason for the lx7, or can you do it without the %50 mouse
jeoncs (author) in reply to hulmaJan 30, 2009. 12:46 PM
No reason just what I had
joey2542667 says: Jan 30, 2009. 10:18 AM
aww! I was going to do this once, but I screwed it up somehow and I haven't gotten around to getting a new mouse since.
jeoncs (author) in reply to joey2542667Jan 30, 2009. 10:24 AM
Thrift stores are awesome in bigger cities to find a mouse at
phil555 says: Jan 30, 2009. 7:41 AM
Heheh, I did this once! I used a wired mouse though. Turned out great.

Nice. Always good to see an instructable that builds on a previous project of the owners. Very inventive.
