Introduction: Custom Rc Car
One day I found this website, and searched around for a bit. I ended up wanting to build something for the Make It Move Contest, so I got to thinking. What could I build? What would I build? A few days later it came to me as I was working outside in my shop: I would build an RC Car! I set to work immediately and within a week, I was done.
Step 1: Materials and Tools
So first off, you will probably want a radio. You know, so you don't just stop and sit in silence.
Then, you will want some Erector sets to build the frame and parts of the steering assembly.
For this build, I used a Axial Scorpion chassis, a Tamiya Grasshopper rear axle assembly and parts of the steering system. I got the shocks from my Tacon Thriller.
Overall, the amount of tools that I used was very small because there wasn't very many tools needed.

Step 2: Building the Rear Assembly
For my drive train, I used a Tamiya Grasshopper rear axle. I have a Axial Scorpion Chassis flipped upside-down and the Axial Scorpion chassis plate screwed on to the chassis, and is pretty much the basis off of which everything is based.
Step 3: The Steering System
Now that there is a drive system, you will probably want to steer.
First, you need to get a general idea of what your steering mechanism will look like.
Then, lay all the parts out in the general place that they will be. Question the functionality for a bit, then test it. if it doesn't work in your mind, it probably wont work for real.
Then put everything together. The nuts and bolts I used all came with the Erector set (except the screws the are holding the servo in place, those came with the Tamiya Grasshopper).
Step 4: Finishing Touches
For this step, there isn't much to do.
You will just need to put velcro everywhere, reinforce everything, and mount the electronics.
I think this is probably the easiest step, mostly because there isn't many tools used.
